Default Rod knock

I posted a question recently about a noise I've been hearing in my motor, almost like rod knock, maybe detonation.

Since looking through this thread ( Subaru issue turbo STOP SALE on certain 08-09 models ) and having a few people confirm that its a true bulletin, I am picking up my old problem with the issue.

Above 2.5k rpm and very pronounced at 3k, I hear this noise under cruising throttle, and very slight acceleration.

If you all could go out and verify that you too have the noise or not Id appreciate it.

To duplicate:
- 2nd or 3rd gear are the best
- acclerate to 3,000 RPM and hold
- notice noise if any,
- then accelerate just so very slightly and notice if any knocking noise is present.

I'm going to call my dealer to talk with them about it today or Monday but I wanted to bring some more information from members here.

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Take it into your dealer. They will diagnose it, verify it and get SOA involved and they will handle it.

Keep in mind right now dealers do not have information on this and the technicians will have to get SOA tech involved for the appropriate repair.

I'd just drive the thing like it was stolen and blow the goddamn thing up, out of anger.. then I'd get it towed and dropped off at the dealership..

what a piss off. unreal......

My friend just bought an 08 STI recently, I don't even want to TELL him about this, he is excited like a little kid and has wanted the STi for quite some time now.. I can't bare to tell him the news that his car may possibly need work.

I guess you could say Im used to it. My last car, 07 G35 sedan, had a crappy transmission that needed replacing. Went down once, then again it needed work and they denied service claiming that it was "normal".

In any case...it does stink, but it is a great car. The G, not so much. No soul.
