Listen in the begining of this thread someone posted a link to (everything about oil) its pretty much just what it sounds like. In there it states there is no reason to be changing oil weights based on seasonal climates. Your car probably doesn't run hot enough in the winter to take advantage of a 10w-40 oil. 5-30 is fine, as recommended it the owners manual. I'm sure they took into thought who would be driving these machines and how the would be driven. 5w-30 is a thick enough yet thin enough for day to day situations while occasionly hitting the track.
As the oil gets hotter than normal on track events it thins some causing the amount of oil getting sprayed higher, more flow works more to seperate engine parts.

Does anyone know normal operating temp for a stock sti
Also temp for a mildly upgraded sti too?
