Default Throwout bearing covered under powertrain warranty?

Anybody know if it is? It's not specifically listed in the warranty booklet, but then again that list is written in a general kind of way, so I would like to know if anybody has ever gotten it covered under the powertrain warranty (I'm at 41K miles, so the 3/36K warranty is long gone). Ford covers the bearing under powertrain coverage because it is a "lubricated part", so I had hoped Subaru would as well.

I hope it is. This is the noise that I've been getting occasionally since the car was brand new (first happened the day after I brought it home, I kid you not). It's never been consistent enough to try and reproduce for the dealer, because it was happening once every month or so for the first couple years. In the last couple months it's started happening at least 50% of the time on a cold startup when the car has been sitting "outside" (covered, but a parking garage so open to the elements). Rarely happens when it's been parked in my garage at home. And it goes away when the car warms up, so even now reproducing it requires dropping the car off and coming back hours later.

I feel kinda silly, actually, for taking this long to realize it was a throwout bearing. I've certainly experienced enough bad ones in the last 17 years, but none that had quite the sound this one does. My driving habits don't involve riding the clutch when I'm not shifting, so it was luck that I noticed the connection. I'm losing my touch, time to let someone else do all my wrenching .

Anyhoo ... let me know whatcha think about it being covered. I'll stop by the dealer anyway, I suppose, since it's a costly repair, just to be sure. And morally I'd really like to have Subaru pay for it, because I *know* it was defective from the beginning. If I break it, I pay for it, but dammit, the converse should be true!

Out of those 41,000 miles have you taken it in to the dealer for them to diagnose it?

No I haven't. Dammit! You're the second person today to mention that, the sales guy at the Mitsubishi dealer said exactly the same thing. "Should have taken it in and had it recorded as an issue, then it would still be covered even though you're at 41K miles." Doh!
