Arrow Dealer installed conventional instead of full synthetic

My bro had his 30k maintenance done and unfortunately he failed to tell service advisor he had synthetic in his car.

Would there be any short/long term adverse affects? I figure I'd change his oil anyway once he gets home.

Wouldn't mechanics be able to differentiate between conventional and synthetic inspite of it being used?

Despite the fact it was his fault, I'm surprised the service advisor didn't ask him what oil he used prior. He paid for the service and I told him to go back tomorrow ( if they're opened ). Due to fact he didn't inform them beforehand, it's foreseeable as to why they would charge my bro.

Thanks

No worries. Just drain it if you want when you have some free time.

Thats no big deal really. Just drain it. And make sure your bro works on communicating and/or being more assertive.

I don't know any mechanics who can differentiate between dino and synthetic oil. I have a few mechanics in my family, my brother being one of them, and he admitted that after 3000 miles all oil looks the same.

It's not going to hurt anything having it in there for a little bit but yea you should change it. At least you know for next time to specify that you want synthetic.

If you're going to change it every 3000 miles, it won't hurt at all to just leave it.

It wont hurt a single thing. I would leave it in for 3k, then change it.

According to my owners manual, Subaru recommends against using synthetic oil in our engines. So, it wouldn't suprise me that he didn't ask. What would suprise me though, is that a Subaru dealer would give the option between dino and synthetic.

I know a LOT of you guys use synthetic, but as long as I have a warranty, I'm not going to push my luck.

Synthetic/Conventional oil isn't going to matter for those people changing their oil every 3,000 miles. I've used synthetic for my last 3 oil changes or so but even past 30,000 miles I was using conventional. I try to change my oil every 3,000 miles but sometimes when I'm lazy I let it get up to 4,000 or 5,000 miles. I haven't had any issues with burning oil either.

If your engine fails, and SOA gets involved, I think it would matter !

they suggest not using conventional oil for the first 10k miles, afterwards my dealer told me to use synthetic

I'm getting mixed feelings here I should've made this a poll

I haven't changed it yet because he hasn't come home. I'm glad you mentioned this because I remember reading before that H4 engines can be changed at 7500 miles with "light" driving and "normal" driving is at 3750 intervals. It didn't mention what type of oil though. It's different with H6 engines however.

My bro may drive it spiritedly but he never tracked his car. I'm worried about internals getting damaged.

If you have a Turbo motor, it is strongly encouraged to change it every 3750.

I did mine at 2500 at first now it's 3500

Well it was changed and for the life of me I don't see why the tech didn't realize how bad throttle response was. My bro recognized it the minute he drove it. He drove it some more and it was really bad. I don't know why he didn't go back in the first place.
