IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | I was researching on doing some tuning on my OBP 07 and came across some scary info on the 07's ecu set up being very picky with any kind of mods, leading to engine failure. This discouraged me into doing anything in fear of voiding warranties. NOW.......my dealership brought to my attention of them installing SPT parts and still being warrantied. I know I'll take it in the pants but is this true? Does SOA back this? This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |

IWSTI Addict since: Nov 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | Your ecu problems can be fixed with a cobb accessport once you have that you are good to go with modding. Plus if you ever need warranty or dealer work you can uninstall called (unmarrying) the AP to your ECU so it is undetectable. The SPT stuff is not that great I wouldn't recommend getting it it will cost less with an AP only like $600-$800 depending. That SPT performance kit is like $3500 if I am not mistaken. Your decision but that is what I would do. |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | Yeah I really want to get the AP! I wasn't too hot on the SPT stuff either. I was looking at APS or COBB for aftermarket performance. I was just figuring I could get the girl beefed up somewhat and still be under warranty. Then when the warranty is done with.......I RIP IT ALL OFF AND GET WHAT I REALLY WANT!!!!! HAHAHAHHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHHA......................... .................................................. ...whaddya think? .....anyone? |

| Silver Member | meh, the SPT stuff is so overpriced for what you get. If you are really wanting to keep the warranty, and you don't want to worry about "going back to stock" if something breaks, then just wait until your warranty expires. Buying that SPT stuff then replacing it later is really a waste of cash. Maybe start by doing non powertrain mods. Like wheels, suspension, electronics, etc. Then when your warranty is up you will be all set to complete your car. careful though, once you get bit by that mod bug it's over.... |

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | This is not true, the ecu still shows that it has been modified even though it will have the stock tune back on it. Granted they really have to look for this and will not beable to tell by driving it or anything else. So it is "undetectable" 99% of the time unless your dealer is really looking to deny your warranty claim. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jul 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | also, you can put whatever CAI you want and whatever CAT-back exhaust you want and they wont void your warranty. Now, touch the downpipe, headers, get tuned etc.. and you better have a nice dealer, because you will most likely get declined... sometimes you can search your area forums for "mod" friendly dealers, but they are rare. BTW they might even tell you non SPT CAI/catbacks are against policy, but they are full of it, and want you to buy their stuff to make more money, you can fight this, but I would recommend a new dealer because its going to be a hassle, and obviously they're d!cks anyway. If you do get anything done, make them give you your old parts back. They are always useful when selling, passing smog, or tired of running like crap with a CAI on factory tune. Might be VERY dangerous on an 07 BTW...but at least you'll have your warranty. |

| Iron Fisted | Honestly, I'm not a fan of SPT stuff. If I was going to spend 3.5k or whatever it is for their performance pack, I would want it to be nothing but the best. Just get an AP and call it a day. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | There is a service bulletin from SOA saying that is a vehicle does come in with after market intakes, exhausts, BOV's, etc. that is cause enough to deny any powertrain warranty claims. it is the dealers discretion whether or not they warranty anything on your vehicle. it all depends on the relationship you have with your dealer. if you are a regular customer with good service history at the dealer, no matter if you have after market parts or not you will stand a better chance of major powertrain warranties. IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | I have it in PDF. pm or aim your email and ill send you a copy. it doest directly say to void warranty for aftermarket items but it shows pictures of aftermarket parts and describes what type of damage they cause. then the dealer can make their own conclusion. | Silver Member | After seeing that bulletin, I wouldn't consider exhausts or intakes warranty safe mods anymore..... |
