Ruinous - Glad you got the car back.

What was the root cause of the engine failure?

Not likely. Why would they tear down a new short block assembly that is new to replace one part and then tear down the old motor to replace it under warranty. Chances are, they lost their ass off for labor and definately don't want to waste extra time messing around with 1 rod bearing. Plus Subaru will want the old short block back.

Now I would take the car back in and tell them to fix their mistake of all the missing screws/bolts. Remember, you should be getting a survey from Subaru. Give them a chance to fix the mistake. If they can't or won't, then fill the survey out based off that experience.

DO NOT PUT UP W/ CRAP WORKMANSHIP! HAVE THEM FIX EVERYTHING AS YOU BROUGHT IT TO THEM AND INSIST THAT THEY DO SO.

I would be polite but firm in my remarks to the service manager. If he doesn't instill confidence, move onto the General Manager. Keep moving up until you get what you want. Just be polite but firm with whomever you are speaking too.

If all of this fails, THEN YOU CAN SELL THE CAR. But maybe the new buyer will carfax the VIN< have it inspected prior to sale and your car not being in good order will not get you a better price. IN the end, you may eat the $ for the crappy results you accept now.

AND ALSO, you have the court of Law in your favor if all else fails. You can sue in small claims for a decent chunk of $ should anyone EVER jerk you off on a legit warranty claim.

dude, they should clean all that stuff and replace anything that causes the car to stink. I think you're being too nice to them.

remember it wasn't YOUR fault and if any part is too dirty or got damaged from the engine failure they should clean it or replace it.
