Default Extended Warranty...

Has anyone ever sold their extended warranty back to Subaru? I was a dummy and accidently bought one knowing that I was going to void it by changing parts... I read through the coverage but, was wondering if has went through the process... Any help would be fricken sweet!! Thanks!

I have sold/returned an Acura extended warranty...I'm sure Subaru's cant be that much different. You usually have to get an official odometer reading and the money you get back is prorated based on that. For example, if you have a 100k mile extended warranty and there is 20k miles on the car, you will get back 80% of what you paid initially. Chances are you wont see your check for like 8 weeks.

Just call up the dealer who sold you the warranty originally.

The refund is supposed to go directly towards your loan principle so your monthly payments will stay the same if you are financing.

So even if I havent dipped into using the warranty I bought they subtract from it? Am I getting that right? So right now... Ive had my car for 1year 9months with 17780 miles. Will they subtract it from the original factory warranty? Im going to call the dealership tomorrow and find out the 411! Thanks for your help! Even if I dont get a check... my car will be paid off that much sooner!!

A warranty isn't a savings account. It's insurance so yes, it will be prorated. No, it will not subtract from the original factory warranty. The original factory warranty stands at 3 yrs, 36K miles. What you bought was an extended which rides on top of your factory warranty and thus trumps it. You will get a prorated refund towards your principle loan for the 1 year and 9 months that you had the extended warranty.

What did you do to make you think that you voided the warrenty? Or are you just planning on doing a lot?

I sold mine back ~8 months after I purchased my car. I'm pretty sure I got all of my money back (at least 95%). Extended warranties are a scam IMO.

Why do you think it's a scam?

err, not a scam. I just don't think they are worth the money, especially with a vehicle like the STi. 90% of the time, you'd probably be better off just putting the money in a saving account and using it for later repairs.

I can see your point. But for someone like me, who drives their cars hard, it may be worth it. lol

Just with the full exhaust, CAI, Utec and basically everything shy of a new turbo... Im sure that I would get refused warranty work.

Im a mechanic so anything I break Ill just fix... Atleast that way I will get quality work done... I dont know about some of the dealerships out there from what Ive read on here.

I got 100% back when I got refunded... pretty happy how all this turned out.

Hmmm, I heard a lot of dealers don't mind full exhaust and intake mods. Once you start messing with the motor itself, then they won't warranty the work.

Im pretty sure anytime you mess with the ECU it will void your warranty. I could just take my Utec out and top mount and TVG deletes... lol Just not planning for my car to go back to stock. It will if something happens with in 3 years/ 80,000 miles (or whatever it is) it will...lol
