IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | Synthetic oil has been thoroughly proven in racing and high-performance for three decades. Except for break-in, synthetic is all I have used since 1978 in many performance vehicles. You can't buy better engine protection than Redline and Mobil 1 EP. Both have been recommended to me by major engine builders. |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2006 Trader Rating: (1) | when i went to get an oil change at the dealership close to my house, they told me that they can use synthetic, but i would be voiding my warranty. She (the service advisor) also said that the if i read the manual I would see it. I pulled the manual out of my car and told her it clearly does NOT say not to use synthetic and says nothing about voiding warranty. I don't know what these dealerships are smoking. |

![]() Where do you get your info from? After the break-in period i changed it to mobile 1 full synthetic. I never went back ever since. If I drive severely I change every 2500. Otherwise i change every 3000-3500. | |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2007 Trader Rating: (1) | I was also told by the dealer that there is no reason to use synthetic. But i see what Blackfang is saying, its not the oil, it's the extended intervals because people think they can get away with not changing their oil for a while since they use synthetic. Also if you change your oil every 2500-3000, it can get quite pricey to use synthetic, thats why i am going back to regular. |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2007 Trader Rating: (2) | Not necessarily. In my R32 running the 3.2l VR6, the oil change interval is 10,000 miles, and you must use a vw approved 0-40 synthetic oil. When I drained my oil after 10k miles, it wasn't all that dirty at all. It actually looked pretty good! Far cleaner than the oil I just drained out of my STI after only 5k miles. Im sure a lot of that has to do with engine design, what oil you can use, and whether ithe engine is NA or Turbo. Differently engineered engines will wear and ditry the oil at different rates... obviously by a considerable margin. |
