Default First time at The Glen=FUN

Best fun in the subie to date,The Glen is an amazing track. The weather was perfect 60deg and no humidity.Only 8 cars in my group so had a lot of open track.
The course is great with lots of elevation change, hard corners with lots of camber, scary fast straights and lest we forget that wonderful Armco placed along side for our viewing pleasure.
I tried to make vids but,i only managed to record the ones with the instructor on board but,you get a feel for it.
What was special too,to end the day we took a track walk and got to see the banking and curbing up close.I took a few pics on the track too.
PS. See if you can notice the times i hit the rev -limiter,the car is not really geared for this course especially stage 2,i found my self running out of gear mid-corner.I managed to redline 5th for the first time.
Stock seats SUCK.

It really is a fun track. Once you get used to the track you will find the STi is geared pretty well for the glen. I only use 4th and 5th there. Almost could use 6th. The barriers can be a little intimidating at first. Great pictures from on the track.

You live down in Horseheads? I grew up there went to HHS. The Glen is cool. I used to be able to hear the NASCAR races from my house, sounded like thunder.

Yea i would have been able to grab sixth but,by the time you shift you need to get into the bus-stop so i just bounced off the limiter.Fast enough.

Looks like a lot of fun out there. Reminds me that I need to get a camera setup in my car for my next track event...

I have tried 6th, but you actually end up going slower. Bounce off of the rev limiter is faster.

Ugh, i hate bouncing off the rev limiter. I used to never do it, until i got those Defi Gauges which also beep when you it max boost, so I initailly woudl shift at all the wrong times since I would hear that "beep" of hitting max boost at around 4,000 rpm and be liek WTF....so I started ignoring that... But the problem is that both the Beep for the max boost and our own car's beep for approaching redline sound exactly the same. And so I've ignored the wrong beep before and ran right into the redline bouncing viscously off of it and hurting my Rexy.

That does look like one SWEET track.

I don't know if hitting the limiter will really damge the car after all thats what it's for right?

WOW, it looks like you had fun. Would you please try to convince my wife to let me do that?

I cannot wait!

The limiter isn't "good" for the engine, but it is kinda harsh. I wouldn't worry about it.

Question. Have you guys seen any wrecks at these events? two cars getting tangled up together?

In lower level HPDE, car to car contact is extremely rare and I have never seen/heard of one during my time at the track. On the other hand, tire wall contact normally happens to a few cars out at the track but is usually only seen with the upper level HPDE guys that are pushing harder. It is a risk but as I've discovered if you keep it safe/cautious and learn your limits in a timely fashion you will be just fine.

Get out there and try it, you will not regret it.

Not two cars but, everytime i went there was an incident.
That day a young lady badly damaged a nice yellow z06,she hit the wall and as a result she had about 75deg of camber.
In the vid if you notice the sand in one of the corners that is from a CTS-V which blew it's motor. So i does happen but,as said keep your head up.
