IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2006 Trader Rating: (0) | So today I had my first track day @ NHIS, New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon, NH. It was a BMWCCA Driving School. Absolutely amazing! I took some in-car video footage, and have shortened one of the clips down to fit under the 100mb and 10min limit for YouTube. I plan to order stainless lines, motul fluid, and some pads, probably Hawk HPS's. Stage 2 setup with Invidia N1 Race, Helix Catted DP, Cobb AP V2 Stage 2 93 OTS Maps, Stock Wheels, Stock RE070's This ad is not endorsed by this member. IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2006 Trader Rating: (6) | Dude skip the HPS's and go for a full race pad and swap between the stock pads and the race pads... it will be hard to get the stock pads to bed in again but a compromise pad is always going to leave you wanting more and STi's generate a ton of brake heat... also you can skip the stainless lines they dont really do anything other than offer increased resistance to being cut... the earpiece is called a chatterbox.... also keep your hand on the wheel |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2005 Trader Rating: (8) | congrats on your first track day. I'm sure you are hooked on the sport now! Also it looked like the track is fun to drive as well! I'd also advise that you skip the HPS's and go with something more suited for the track. Contact WRXBrakes (vendor here) and he'll set you straight. also ditch the motul fluid, ATE blue is 1/2 the price has about the same heat ratings. Thats all i use in both the race cars and in my subaru, and I've never had a problem with it. |

I just did my first two events with DTC-70s - now those are nice track pads. Unfortunately I don't have enough pad left for any more full days - maybe a half day. BTW, rotordude is WRXbrakes, he is a vendor here and Spaz already recommended him and I will third that. Last edited by Andy STI; 05-25-2007 at 06:49 PM. |

Trust me, it sucks going through pads like this. I really need some cooling ducts. | |

| Amateur STI Driver | Definitely get higher temp fluids and track pads. The HPS is the lowest of the Hawk pads, and those are made for street/light aggressive braking. On the track, it's so much worse on your brakes. You are really using those brakes and you need something that can handle the extreme temperatures and force. Track pads such as Porterfield R4's, Hawk HT's, Hawk Blue's, or something more track oriented is what you need. Also, why spend money on regular pads that you will burn RIGHT through. Plus, it's your safety, you don't want your pads to start fading or anything in the middle of a lap. That happened to my friend, his fluids boiled and his brakes were letting hi mdown, so he was coming in for this one corner after a straight and passing this car, but his brakes failed to stop in time so he was ran off the track, luckily not into the wall. Before I head to the track I'll definitely get the fluid, pad and lines. |

| STI Driver | my first track day with my STI was at NHIS with the stock brake setup. boiled the brake fluid every time. By the end of the day my pads were pretty much shot. After that I bought the motul fluid, stoptech SS lines, and Ferodo DS2500 pads. Never had a problem since. The pads hold up to the track abuse well, and I have almost never had problems with brakes on the track. Yes there are better track pads, but these hold up well on the track and work well on the street. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
