Looks like you could improve your launch for a better sixtyfoot and get a lower 11 second time.

As for the New SI, they are pretty damn fast but obviously there is no launch comparison between the FWD on that and the AWD beast of an STi. The Sti either had a slow reaction time or was waiting for the civic to go first. Regardless, the STi caught up pretty damn quick.

Very respectable time for the stock tubro though. Nice Vid quality too.

vf39s are good turbos
just the wastegates are too small to control boost
ewg is the way to go,
bet you must have some bag gas mileage w\ open wastegate
on the vf when your on it

dam, I'm doing all your mods on top of what I have except for the EWG and the plugs, I'm going to run methanol on the stock turbo coming in at 8 psi hopefully that'll get me to trap in the 113mph range or higher. I just wanna hit low 12's on stock turbo.

It's not a stock Turbo. Stock turbo means that you can take the turbo off the car, bolt it up to another STI with no changes whatsoever, and have it run normally. That won't happen with a wastegate bolted shut - lol.

Simple as that. I hate seeing 'stock turbo' on posts where the user has a wastegate bolted or welded shut ... or their wastegate actuator modified ... or a different wastegate actuator all together. This is NOT a stock turbo!

To date, nobody with a stock turbo has hit 11's.

I will try my best to hit 11's. My mods are intake, downpipe, exhaust, fuel pump, port and polished heads, aps turbo inlet, aps tmic, and methanol injection. I sure hope I can at least get close to 11's. We shall see.... I'll try to do it for all the stock turboed sti owners! give us some respect from those 11 sec stock turboed evo owners.

The stock turbo in the STI is a VF39 correct? So if this car isn't running a VF39, what turbo is it running?

Honestly, I understand your point about EWG making an improvement, but it really doesn't make the turbo non-stock. To be totally honest, I don't believe the EWG made a whole lot of power anyway. And even if it did, we could get very similar results without it by just freeing up the exhaust side. One option would be to run a divorced wastegate downpipe modified to open dump. Another option would be to just run open downpipe and forget about the rest of the exhaust. The EWG is just a more practical choice compared to the other two for reducing the restriction caused by the exhaust. I'm seriously contemplating just disabling the EWG and seeing what the car will do without it. I don't think we'd lose more than 5whp considering the already well flowing exhaust that's on the car.

Thanks
-- Ed

So what was the time on the SI, because it had to be around 13.5 or better?

the promblem with the stock wastegate is that the max boost you can run will only be about 17-18 psi, its weak... pressure builds up in the exhaust hosing and pushes the door open in other words. this is why a EWG is needed to run good times on stock turbo.

If at all possible, it'd be great if you could do this just for comparison's sake. Who knows, you could end up being surprised, or you could quiet down all of the nay-sayers. Why don't we find out? You have the means and the way.

I like the theories and all, but I love reading all of the technical data and results from real-life testing even more! Thanks for the great thread guys, I'm just absorbing it all like a sponge.
