Default Few laps at CMP in my STi

This is a video of my first track day at CMP. Still got lots to learn and you'll see me screw up my line quite a few times. Also, you can hear a pretty loud clunk in my car in a lot of the turns. I'm trying to track down the cause...

Haha thanks guys Yeah the guy riding with me was my instructor. Most of my instructions from him consisted of "let him know you're there", "get ready to take him", and "STOMP IT!" He did let me know where I was making mistakes too and got me to be much smoother with the brakes. He "had to get the autocross out of me". By the end of the second day my line was much better but still needed some work. Some of the guys in my group weren't quite comfortable pushing their cars yet and it made for some slow traffic. My instructor tried to talk the director into bumping me up to the next group but since it was my first time he said no way in hell

Overall it was by far the most fun I've ever had in my car. My instructor was a lot of fun to ride with and helped out a ton. Can't wait for the next event!

Looks like it is in slow motion as I've only been on the track on a bike, never in a car. Kewl chit

Thanks Honestly I have no idea what any of my lap times were. This was a drivers education event so no timing was involved. Keeps everything insurance friendly

There is a way to find out if you have a video editor of some sort. If you fast forward through the video and find the exact frame where the finish line goes out of frame, then you can make a cut in the video. If you do that for every lap you should be able to chop it all into laps, and the video editor should tell you the length (in time) of every cut.

This may not be 100% reliable because there can be small inaccuracies in framerates. But that's what I did with my track day video and at the very least it helped me review the video and see what my best lap looked like versus some of my slower laps. And if you're curious, you can compare to others' lap times at www.trackpedia.com.

That is some beautiful video...great job. I must ask, as I'm in the market for a camera/system to record lap days....What are you using for your video system? How would someone make video-kung-fu like that?!!???!!!

Thanks,
TomK

Well my camcorder is ancient by todays standards (probably 4-5 years old) and is kinda heavy for in-car mounting. I use the 6-cup chasecam mount and set it up on the back windshield. That way I can use the top of the rear seats to steady the camera a little. I went for the 6-cup model cause I wanted to mount it on the outside of the car from time to time and it made me feel a little safer about it. You could easily get away with a 3-cup mount though. Check out chasecam.com and you'll find all kinds of options
