IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2006 Trader Rating: (0) | I recently got in an accident for not knowing WTF to do when you lose control like that ![]() ****ed up my back wheel pretty damn good. Ripped it right off the strut. Now...any advice? I know you are always supposed to go WITH the "turn" but I'm not sure. |

| Professional STI Racer | yeah, I'm just getting used to my STi. I came from a Z which is RWD and if you took a turn to fast, you would oversteer and the rear would start coming out and you could just let off and slightly counter steer the slide back into control. I'm not too sure about this awd. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | ^^play gran turismo lol jk...well kinda, not to make it seem like gran turismo replaces real life experiences, but i think it has saved me many timesnow, correct me (and dont get mad) if im wrong but i think what the guy in the video may have done is quickly let off the gas and countersteer way too quickly (due to panic) resulting in his car going to opposite direction of the turn...its hard for me to explain what you actually have to do in that situation...i have been in similar situations many times but have always gotten out of them. i just go with the feel of the car...this one time i was going slightly uphill into a sharp bend, on and off the throttle (in my old wrx), my tail started to whip out, and i slightly countersteered while still going on and off throttle until the end to maintain the position of my car...at the end i gave it more gas to get my car back into a straight line...i think...all i know is, it was a very controlled drift/powerslide across that bend, and i did not crash lol. awd is great so any other concrete advice as to what you SHOULD do? |

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | i dunno, the more i think about it, i think the guy in the video could have kept his foot on the gas, countersteered slightly, and then steered his car back into the turn since it is awd..... all i know is, i might get flamed really soon |

If if snows in the area, practice drifting around corners (not in residential areas or where there are other cars) and get a feel for the car. | |

| Amateur STI Driver | its called lift off over steer and the subarus are pretty bad with it. best advice, dont lift off ... and dont apply the brakes solidly.. the best advice is to point the front wheels where you want to go and give it a little gas.. seems really alien to do that but with AWD the front will pull you out so to speak. Scared me the first time i experienced it aswell.. just dont brake or lift off suddenly. If point and sqiurt seems too alien, then just turning into the slide (ie a little counter steer) and a slight reduction in speed via less throttle and light braking works aswell .. not as well as point and stomp for me though. |

IWSTI Addict since: Nov 2006 Trader Rating: (0) | another safe STI driver i see.... he should be running in a "BEGINNER" group at his local track. that way he could learn why/how he gets in that position, and more importantly, how to get through it. you can't practice that in the canyons. it's like practicing your golf game, on the course. that's what the range is for. i'm glad he didn't kill that motorcycle guy. i wonder if he sent that vid to his insurance company. |

| Junior STI Driver | pfft .. slide dccd forward and ****ing romp on it. teach the car what wheels need to be in front. no seriously though... an awd car should catch itself if you stay in it unless you've completely ****ed up the suspension. |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2005 Trader Rating: (2) | yeah point and gas it a bit. i took at turn at a light quickly but not crazy fast, i let off the gas and turned and there went the rear end since there was a wet spot right in the middle in one spot all i did was steered and gave it a bit of gas.....best drift evar!!!! even though i didnt mean to. with awd its always a good idea to keep your foot on the gas as much as possible.
