Here's yesterday's St. Augustine fastest autox run of the day by an STi in BSP. He ran a 48.9 compared to my 54.5 in STU.....

Very cool video.

What method did he use to launch the car at the beginning? It seemed kind of like a slow start.

I'll ask him for details however, my bet is a typical hard launch without overslipping the clutch....ie rev up, gradually slip clutch, roll gas on, dump clutch, flooring gas, shifting to 2nd around 6-7 k, then keeping it floored thru 2nd, 3rd & 4th on that front straight away..... If you look close you can see the first gate is the timing lights directly in front of him. He hits 2nds at the first cone of the slalom and is into 3rd at the last cone of the slalom (or nearly so).

There were 2 drivers on this car so it had 12 runs (6 per) during this session. I'm sure the launches were hard but not clutch destroying......

OK, I asked the car's owner about their launches....here's the reply:

Its pretty amazing that Kevin and I drive very similar..so your clutch theory is pretty good......we don't drop the clutch..we ride it out till we are rolling then nail the gas...we short shifted to get to 4th gear quicker..so we didn't take the car all the way to redline...torque is only good up to about 6000 rpm to shift more quickly...trying not to bang of the revlimiter...so we had Usable throttle all the way thru our runs...I would say the car is pretty well set up for that.....
