Again the subject of this thread is claiming the brembo brakes are what saved the day in this video and I disagree. The tires did. Sure maybe the upgraded brakes helped a tiny bit over the stock M5 brakes, but this wasn't a track session with repeated braking on R compound tires. It was a street car with street tires making a single emergency stop and the tires played the biggest role in stopping the M5 in this video.
I wonder what kind of tires they were using. I think that is the Team Poliza (sp) M5 car, they have a site somewhere...

Street tires for sure:

Look like Michelin Pilot Sports to me.

I don't want to get involved in this agruement (probably too late ), but let me just say that the Brembo GT brakes are EXTREMELY over-rated. I won't mention any names, but there are plenty of brake setups out there that provide higher and more consistent brake torque, weigh less, and stop the car better, for half the price.

Anyway, assuming the stock brakes could lock up the tires at 130mph (which might not be...) the GT brakes made no difference, and it's all tires. However, I find it hard to believe that the stock M5 brakes could actually trip ABS at 130...I know the stock STI Brembo's can't. I'm not defending the GT brakes, I personally think they're garbage for the price, but they could have made a difference. Just don't give them TOO MUCH credit .

Either way, if the truck didn't get out of the way, they would have smacked right in to it...I don't really see how the GT brakes, or ANY brakes at all, saved them in that situation.

And for Ben... i wouldnt know about the Gt brakes but I think its quality that makes the brembos over priced... I'm just making an assumtion so i wouldnt know for sure but im guessing thats why

Jim I KNOW the Team Polizei car has the Brembo GT brakes. I don't doubt that for a second. I said the BMW comes with brakes from the factory because of your incorrerct comment:

The tires are not "useless" with the stock/factory brakes. Sorry.

For a single emergency stop like that I am sure the stock/factory BMW M5 brakes are MORE than up to the challenge. It's an M5 for crying out loud!

They have the brand name, that's the only reason for the price . Most people just don't know any better and they assume that because it says "Brembo" on it and costs $8,000 it must be good. I feel bad for them .

Don't get me wrong, my friend has the GT brakes on his STI track car and they a big improvement over stock, they just aren't worth 8 grand. He gets pretty pissed off when he gets in my car and it stops better with "no name " brakes that cost less than half the price .

I'm not going to mention a specific name...I'm not an advertising whore . There are plenty of kits out there that are better...

Project Mu
The Brake Man
Performance Friction
Alcon
etc...

I guess impersonating a police officer is no big deal in Europe. There's a blow-up doll in the back seat too.

BTW, had the accident happened and it had been Germany, it would have been the truck driver's fault for not checking before changing lanes. I've lost count on how many freaking semis I've had cut me off and I was doing the speed limit.
Regardless of what it is, overtaking traffic at that speed is stupid. Even moreso being that he's racing and no one else knows.
