IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2005 Trader Rating: (0) | I went out in the snow to test my new camera mount. Here's a compilation of the results. Let me know what ya think! IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2005 Trader Rating: (0) | Thanks everybody... I used an old Sony TRV-140 camcorder (the cheapest one with firewire support) and the "SM40 Ultra Window Mount" from chasecam.com. Here's a picture and a test fitting on a mirror. ![]() ![]() Incidentally, I stopped in a parking lot to remove the camera mount, did a quickie donut on the way out and .... whoops, there's a cop lurking in the shadows. ![]() Lucky for me, the cop was cool. I stopped as soon as I saw him. He pulled up beside me and rolled his window down. Before he said anything, I said "I'm sorry, sir" and he said "Yeah... so you're all set here, right?" ... I said "Yes Sir!" and hightailed it outta there. And crossed that particular parking lot off my list. (sucks too, it's a good one ) |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2003 Trader Rating: (0) | Haha, nice vid. I took a vid before my swap from almost the same view. But with a suction cup and a crappy cam (this is when my stock RS engine was just about toast, rod knock and constant CELs........dont worry, I fixed it up good ) :canuckrs.netengine.ca/In_Car_Pre_Swap.mpg Right Click & "Save Target As" Please |

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2005 Trader Rating: (0) | My initial impression is the mount is solid, but it requires a bit of experimenting to minimize vibration. I got impatient and stuffed a ski cap between the camera and roof to take out the free play. That seemed to work very, very well. ![]() I think 70% of my shaky-cam issues are the camera's fault. It's old, therefore it's heavy. Plus, the threads in its mounting point are worn, and there's a rattle that's picked up very strongly by the microphone (so it's gotta be in/on the camera)...very annoying. (That's part of the reason why I needed a soundtrack for my video )I think if I invest in a small, lightweight camcorder, I'll be good to go. How big is your camera? |
