Lucky for me, the cop was cool. I stopped as soon as I saw him. He pulled up beside me and rolled his window down. Before he said anything, I said "I'm sorry, sir" and he said "Yeah... so you're all set here, right?" ... I said "Yes Sir!" and hightailed it outta there. And crossed that particular parking lot off my list. (sucks too, it's a good one )

Nice vid. Anyway, I have a question about this last part. Why would an officer really care if if you're playing in an OBVIOUSLY vacant corner of a huge parking lot? There's little/no possibility of damage to anything other than your own personal rig, so why have a problem with it? I can't think of anything, anybody else have an idea?

I have a Canon S2-IS digital camera that I might try as a video camera. It's got image stabilization and a better microphone. The only problem with it is only 4 minutes of recording time at max resolution/framerate on my 512MB card.

Here's some pictures of the mount installed in my car:

I know what you mean, and agree entirely!

The problem with it from the cops' perspective: according to the letter of the law, it's reckless driving. (in New York anyway...)
Reckless driving = a very very bad ticket. Here, it's as many points as a speeding ticket for 35 over.

Depending on circumstances, it could also be considered trespassing.

^^ Sheesh. I'm gonna read up on Montana law, I'm sure it's pretty similar. I just think it's retarded though. It makes me want to buy a couple of acres, pave it, and rally it up anytime I want. Heck, maybe even run some sprinklers during the winter months and have a grand 'ol time.

Wait a minute, that's a GREAT idea! Might have to look into some cheap land nearby.

Cop told me that if he could write me a ticket for doing donuts in the snow, he would have. He says he cant because it was on private property (the parking lot), so he just told me to leave. What they can do is wait for you to leave the lot and then give you a BS ticket like un-necessary noise.

hmmm, now that's interesting. If you're on private property, with the permission of the land owner, in a town with no noise ordinance... then theoretically you're not breaking any laws.

I like the idea of a 100 acre parking lot covered in ice. Set it up like the Nurburgring, where anyone can drive up, pay an entrance fee, sign a liability waiver, and go raise some hell.
