IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2005 | Yea youre right, but at the end of the day its still a mustang. I was in the same boat as you about a year ago. I was real close to buying a spec miata, and at the last second backed out. Instead i picked up an 01 mustang gt that was a bondurant school car. It only had 20 hours on it, and lets just say it was the buy of the century. Thanks ebay! Anyways the car already had a fire system, fuel cell, 6pt cage, recaro pole positions, and countless upgrades to the suspension/drivetrain, basically everything i needed. I dont know how serious you are about it, or if you would be intrested in a car like this at all, but if you are watch ebay cause every once in a while one pops up, and i personally dont think you can buy a better track prepped car for the price. |

Do you know if the guy did any more work to his STI (upgraded turbo, etc)? That would be an interesting race.

I don't even know his name. I asked him to check out the vid once I did the editing and to join the mustangforums, but i never saw him/heard from him again. He was talking about doing a tune and some sort of specific name (dunno, if you mention It I will recognise it) CAI setup. But I don't think that is gonna be enough

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2005 | Earlier this year I watched a number of SCCA races at our local track (Portland International Raceway). I still remember the one race where I saw a Evo, STi, and Camaro racing in a pack together. The first lap, it was that order. A few laps later, it became STI, Evo, Camaro. Then STi, Camaro, Evo. And not long before the end of the race, it was Camaro, STi, Evo. And it wasn't the Camaro making time in the straights -- the Evo pulled in the straights. The Camaro was wicked in the corners, and was really giving the two AWD cars a run. My point ... any of the three cars can excel in drag racing or road racing, or even autocross (ask RainMaker, who now has an 06 STI, how well he used to do in his Camaro...). Also, ... who compares Mustang GT's to STI's anyway? For the price point, it seems to make more sense to compare the STI to the Cobra -- they cost almost exactly the same. (and for what it's worth, with way under a grand in mods my Cobra turned 12.28@118 on street tires... how much money would it take to get my STI to do the same? How about a Mustang GT?) They're all nice cars, and they all have something they're particularly good at. If I still wanted straightline performance above all else, I would not have sold my '03 Cobra . Twisties are fun too, and that is where the STI excels. There are a LOT of cars that can give it a good run (or spank it) in a street race from anything other than a dig (and most STI owners that I've seen, at least around here, are unwilling to do a balls out AWD launch, and then the STI is pretty slow...).Dave |

If you go by the price argument this would mean it is illogical to buy a Porsche GT 2. i dunno about you but I could care less if your Mustang, Camaro, STi, RX7, Supra, or even Civic can beat my Porsche because i'm driving a god damn Porsche. The same reasoning applies here. You're on a STi entusiasts forum, and most of us love our cars. That's great that your (and when I say "your" I mean everyone in this thread) other model type of car can beat my/his/her STi, but that doesn't make it a "better" car. It's all opinion and choice of preference. Personally I hate Mustangs. Don't get me wrong I know they can move like stink (especially Cobras), but I just think they look like ***, have a cheap interior, and WAY TOO many people own them. I feel this way about a lot of cars, this is not a Mustang specific thing, and it's definately not jealously cause I just could have easily bought a Mustang and supercharged it as the thread starter has proven. Vice-versa a lot of f-body owners feel the same way about imports. They often find them ugly, too flashy maybe, sound cheap and "farty", etc. That's why you picked your V-8, because you like the instant torque, noise, and all that. Just remember your on a STi forum. Admitting that another car has balls and liking it are 2 different things. I know a lot of Mustangs out there could hand me my *** on a platter with a side of chips, but at the end of the days I still don't like the mustang one bit and am glad/happy I own my STi. Just because your car can roll doesn't mean we have to like it. Good example for you guys would be the 2JZ-GTE Supra. Most single turbo Supras will roll all over a Cobra (keep in mind i'm being general here), but that doesn't mean the Cobra owner has to like the Supra. Even better example...The Yankees are possibly the best franchise to ever exist. But I still say F**K the Yankees! Anyways, sorry for the long post and making everyone read so much on a Friday. I just think this distinction needs to be made clear. Point being, respect and fondness are two different things.
