IWSTI Addict since: May 2005 Trader Rating: (6) | funny i came across this. last night a friend (EssTeaEyee) and i did a run from a roll in 2nd gr. and he's stage 2, and im completely stock...and i kept up all the way up to 5th gear...then he just started pulling away. but he did get a good 2 car lengths ahead. for still being stock, i must admit this car is seriously quick even against a stage 2 STi. im finally able to really see what this car has against a modded STi, and im pleased which one was the Stage2 STi? was the stage 2 STi tuned as well? cause my friend was protuned. he was saying he pulls more in 5th gear once his turbo kicks in. but forgive my lack of an actual answer. With that said it's almost a drivers race. However the st2 car definitly has more power, makes more boost, and holds more boost to redline, meaning in 5th gear when youre making 13 psi and hes making 18 or something, the stg2 car definitly moves ahead. |

| Spec C Club | This is funny as I raced my buddy a little while ago. I am Stg 2 Protuned 91 w/turboback and he was (at the time) Stg 2 91 no protune, just a DP. The cars were amazingly similar in speed. It's almost like you can't really tell the benefits until the high gears because so much time is spent shifting. I think he's a better driver than me too, hehe. |

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2003 Trader Rating: (0) | Also, is there a difference between Stage 2 with just a Cobb downpipe and a Stage 2 with a full Cobb TBE? I've always wondered if some of these mix-in-match Stage 2s, where they don't use a Cobb downpipe or TBE, could result in less than optimal output since Cobb tuned using its own products. Could the variations between downpipes/TBEs make a difference/affect the maps? |

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2003 Trader Rating: (0) | OT: Talk about strange ads on StreetFire; invest in "STi" but make sure you don't have STDs (STi / STD someone needs to check their ad scripts lol.) Gee and a supercharger for a Viper that adds 35 (!) HP. Oooh. Last edited by Digitalfiend; 01-30-2008 at 09:02 PM. |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2005 Trader Rating: (0) | For someone reason everyone thinks a Stage 2 STi is some "street beast." I'm estimating, but 30 whp isn't going to make a significant difference. In the 1/4 it may make a difference of about a car length. Hardly a huge "seat of the pants" feeling. But, every little bit counts..... |

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2003 Trader Rating: (0) | Yeah but it's not just the 30whp, it's the slightly change to the torque curve. You get boost earlier on, you get slightly more torque in the upper range, and, as someone else mentioned, this makes a nice difference in the higher gears. I would imagine that not all Stage 2 STis are running 100% of Cobb's estimates and I guess that would be the problem with a OTS product. I wonder what a stock STi vs a Protuned Stage 2 would be like? |

I've been in another member's Stage 2 STi on more than one occasion, and while it is noticeably faster than mine, it wasn't as significant as I expected it to be. I believe he has since started doing his own tunes with the Street Tuner. I would estimate that his car is good for around a 12.80 @ 106 mph. I know for fact that he has a TBE, intake, and obviously an ECU tune, but I don't know what other types of "go-fast goodies" he has. This question may be off the beaten path, but how much of a mph gain can one expect with the "basic STi owner mods," such as a TBE, Stage 2, and an intake? I've noticed a lot of STi owners don't get as "involved" in modding as those of Evos or other cars..... | |
