This is kind of a repost...I just posted these in my member journal but they also belong in here.

LOL. Nothing to do really. I just shift after WOT

That's on 91 octane piss gas too. On 100 octane the flame is much bigger. I should record it next time I put in 100 octane, but I don't want to burn the camera.

Yes, needs to be a TBE and catless as well. My wagon has the Cobb catted downpipe and does not shoot any flames .

very nice. If I get an STI...that will be the setup I go for. Some type of TBE without cat. Is your car insanely loud though? I couldnt really tell from the video.

It shoots flames because the STi is set to run pig rich from the factory to avoid detonation. The car is just expelling unburned gas from the chamber.

Have any cops ever pulled you over for loud exhaust since you're catless? I live in California too and I know they have some pretty strict laws.

There's nothing wrong with backfire (or a full flame), it won't hurt anything. The exhaust is pretty loud at WOT but cruising around it's very nice and has a really nice note to it. It really brings out the boxer rumble and has a lot of bass.

Both the factory ECU and the cobb stage 2 map run really rich which is why you see that flame (I have the 91 octane stage 2 base map). I'm probably going to get it protuned and once that is done I won't be shooting flames anymore .

No, I've never been pulled over for it, although I don't drive anywhere near cops and if I ever see one I just stay below 3500 rpms. My exhaust really isn't much louder than stock unless you floor it or are above 4k rpms so they would never notice if you're just cruising. Same thing with the flames; shifting regularly will not shoot any flames. You only get the big backfires when you shift after WOT at around 6-7k RPM.
