IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2005 | Guys, the more I look at it, the more I think it was an STi. But before you guys kill me, I don't think the guy in the STi was racing until the last couple seconds. The STi was just cruising. And like someone mentioned, at the last minute it looks like the STi saw the Cobalt coming and floored it, but the tool in the SS slowed down. You could even see the STi starting to walk the Cobalt in the last few seconds before the Cobalt shuts down. Now, why do I think it's an STi? I have looked at this vid 42 times ( since I started counting ) STi Lou, in that pic you posted... you stated that was an 02-03 because of the lights. However, look more closely. It is clear the lights are from an 04-05 because you can see the curve at the bottom. It's quite clear. Also, the rear fender flare is quite visible. Look closely. The other points you mentioned were convincing but the rims do look like 17s to me. I don't know why this idiot in the Cobalt didn't film his " interview" with the guy in the Scoobie. Besides, he didn't beat it. I'd like to see a fair race from a role. Then the STi would spank the Cobalt SS. My conclusion, I’m 90% sure it was an STi... BUT he was not racing the Cobalt until the last few seconds. He was probably just cruising listening to his music or something when he noticed the Cobalt coming up.... then he floored it but the SS slowed down. Again, don’t kill me guys. That’s just my observations. The video quality is too poor for me to say 100% it’s an Sti but I’m pretty sure. More evidence is in the vid ( rear fender flare, lights ) to favor the fact it’s an STi than not. EDIT: I didn't take into account that someone could have modded their WRX to have that rear fender flare. Not sure if that is even possible. In any case, the more I think about it, I just can't believe that was an STi even though the evidence I stated proves otherwise. Last edited by STiJunki; 08-06-2005 at 10:54 AM.. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2005 | Also, I don't even know why all of us ( including me ) are mad at this vid. The Cobalt overall doesn't even come CLOSE to the STi in performance. I'd like to see the two cars on a race track. Man it wouldn't even be close. I'm not bashing the Cobalt but seeing these guys compare their cars to the STi is like comparing the STi to the Porsche 911. |

Looking at the numbers, if an SS caught a STi at a low RPM, while in a high gear it would have taken him some time to get the turbo spooled again, which might explain why it took him so long to walk. This same issue applies to just about any turbo car, when measured against a roots super charged vehicle. A similar result would be likely if it was an EVO or a ***** he snuck up on. Once again we all know these cars would walk an SS any day of the week. If you really watch the video there is a second or two where the Impreza appears to hit the breaks (watch the break lights), almost as if he trying to give the guy a chance to get door to door for a race. It could be the sun, but it coincides with the only time the SS gains, so perhaps he was slowing down. In any case we’ll never know unless the Impreza owner comes on the forum and tells his side of the story. | |

Absent the wings, the cars don't have enough differences to let that video show us which one it is. See the picture below. Last edited by Pkskull77; 08-06-2005 at 03:06 PM.. |

IWSTI Addict since: May 2004 | It doesn't even look like they were going 85mph. Seems like they were barely moving. More like 85 kilometers per hour. if that... I can't even tell if they're accelerating or not. Seems like they're moving at a consistent speed for the most part. |
