On PKSkull77's defense, he does own a white STi, he's a good friend of mine....

Yes, the Cobalt is fast, yes the SRT-4 is fast...

BUT, the STi is faster stock vs stock. Could the Cobalt or SRT-4 beat an STi, yes under certain circumstances (Like the STi owner doesn't know how to drive)

Does the Cobalt or SRT-4 own the STi? No
Will either car be a good race? Yes
Am I afraid of a Cobalt or SRT-4? No

Just my .02

So you own a white STi? Your profile on ClubWRX (same name & birthdate) is the same one as here. I found a post by you that states that you just bought an 05 WRX (no mention of STi) recently after trading in your RX-8:

You mention that you traded your RX-8 for your 05 WRX. Your profile here states that you own a 2001 STi Spec-C. Confusing.

Also found some posts by you on the CobaltSS site. One particularly interesting one:

As far as a highway race goes I would imagine that the EVO would gain a car or two in most situations. Put the cars on a track and its not even close, the EVO is a far better car.
Considering the numerous videos of stock Evos (pre-05) vs stock STis showing them to be about equal, how will an Evo gain a car or two but the STi won't? That doesn't make a lot of sense.

Before you retort with the "you have too much time on your hands", this took maybe 5 minutes to find out. So I'm curious, do you actually own an STi or did you just get a chance to drive one?

Edit: once again, let me be clear that I believe a Cobalt SS might keep up (1-2 car lengths) from a roll. I don't believe it would be a blow out. Obviously arounda track or from a dig it would get obliterated...but seriously who races from a dig or around a track anymore?

In reality, anything can beat anything. I can put a jet engine on a geo metro and smoke everyone including a turbo hayabusa. Remember that jet powered mid 90s MR2? With enough money, anything is possible. You have to draw the line somewhere.

As you said, there is NO way a stock or even slightly modded (exhaust, intake, headers) Cobalt SS could beat or keep up with an STi. These claims are made up by people who, I'm sorry to be a ****, couldn't afford (or didn't choose wisely enough, if speed was their intent) an STi or faster (more expensive) car, and in order for them to feel better, make up or create stories or arguements like this. Those videos tell us nothing. I can make a video of a turtle racing a rabbit and winning, and make believable.

Digitalfiend, he really does have a STi.. He bought the 05 WRX and had it for ONE month, then traded that in again for the STi... Pretty funny, he went in to buy crush washers (I was going to show him how to change his oil on the WRX) and he came out with a new car. I know him personally, we went to college together, and he is my fraternity brother. He is who he is.

As for his arguements, we have spent many of hours on the phone argueing this same topic. He is basically not happy, because for 10k cheaper, he could get the same performance. What he doesn't realize is that the STi is a nice car all around, and much more practical then the other two cars. There is more to the car than just performance, even though it has plenty of that!

Good point, that's what I was trying to say earlier, but you said it better.

Plus at any given moment the expected winner can loose. Given a crappy enough driver or beat engine a STi could very well loose to a moped. But on an average day, when things are normal, stock for stock, equal drivers, the cobalt will be molested by an STi. Also, one STi does not speak for all. Just like the typical honda civic might loose to a C5 Vette, but that doesn't mean the b20 turbo hatch will. It's all relative, run what you brung. I know I don't plan on losing to any stock cobalts, and if I do I will be declaring my engine a lemon.

Well, if he's unhappy he can sell the STi and buy the SS.

I've been telling him to to sell his car if he doesn't like it. But I know deep down inside he likes it..

Yeah he bought his WRX, came over, drove my car, a week later, traded his car in.. Very nuts, but hey to each his own. I'm just glad he ended up with an STi, or he would be really having issues with the WRX vs Cobalt!

Why am I nuts? I bought the WRX with the intention of modifying it and eventually realized that the cost of modification was more expensive than payments on the STI. Furthermore I got a big raise at work and could afford to put on a couple extra bucks a month. I went to the dealership and asked for a certain price, and when I got it I made the deal. I admit I took a little bit of a loss on the transaction, but in the long run it was the more economical decision, considering that I could keep the warranty.

As for the 8, I had to ditch it because I needed something that my dogs would fit into, and could get around in the snow. The 8 was not the car for that the Impreza was.

As for hating my car, that couldn't be further from the truth. However I do find it a little annoying that a stock Cobalt can give me a run for my money but what are you going to do.

When I first jumped in this thread I treated it like most of you guys did. I completely thought that the Cobalt was a POS, and the STI would walk it silly. I posted over at SS in response to this thread, and pop in over there to see what other outrageous claims they are making. However, after seeing a couple of vids and looking at the numbers I realized we were wrong. THE STI is a far superior car, but it will not walk a Cobalt from say 30-60 or so. When your wrong, and when you post as much venom as we did, its right to admit that you were wrong.
