In a drag race (aka from the dig) you expect a good driver to beat a poor one, so long as they are in similarly powered vehicles. Reaction time, the launch, shifting, RPM’s all play a huge roll in how quickly you can get the car down the track. These are things that take a lot of practice to get right, and at times a little bit of luck.

From a roll there’s not as much to screw up (which explains why a ton of ricers do it), and therefore I don’t buy into the whole driver error/skill argument. Since you can set the STI’s Tachometer to beep at 6 k, the only thing the driver has to do is actually shift the car, and keep it going strait. Is it possible to screw up a shift? YES, I’ve done, and so have all of you. Therefor its unlikely that a driver is going to make big difference in this race.

From what I saw of this video, I just don’t think that STI was faster than that Cobalt. There could be other factors at play, such as a poorly modified STI, or a modified SS. From what I understand there is a set of overdrive pulleys for that car now, so that could explain some things.

Furthermore the video cuts out a little prematurely for my liking. Is it possible that the SS runs out of steam up top? Sure. I would just like to see something to the contrary before we start killing the car.

If you think all driver error is taken out from a roll you are wrong. Maybe he is shifting at 4k, maybe he started in 4th gear, etc. I mean christ look how far back he drops betwen shifts, i've seen old ladies that shift quicker than that. Plus like others said you have no clue on the condition of his car or the colbalts.

NOw disregard all that. Lets say the STi was in top notch condition and the driver was driving it well. This is one STi out of thousands made. There is such thing as getting a crappy motor. On average, the Colbat is going to get his *** handed to him on a silver platter with chips on the side. The numbers how it all. The STi on average makes more power and traps higher...period.

I personally think its just a bad driver. A lot of Supra (2jz-gte) owers with 400+ WHP run 14s because they just can't drive (well that and traction, but i'm trying to convey a point). But take the video as you want. If you want to be afraid to race a Colbalt SS then be my guest, but that's more pathetic than losing to one in my opinion.

Am I the only one who thinks the WRX is driving along merrily and this idiot in the cobalt is coming up to it? I don't see a race.

That’s possible in the first video, but if you look at the one I posted much later in the thread, there is no doubt that the STI is racing. Consequentially, the STI is also losing.

okay first off that guy in the white STi did not know how to drive he shifted at around roughly 6k RPMs and also that looked like a horrible launch he revved up at the last second and dropped the clutch at like 4-5k which is awful... he got a triple bog effect from doing that.

Its not working for me right now so I can take a second look, but if I remember correctly you can see the dash at the end of the video and its definently the STI dash and not the WRX. Furthermore everything on the outside of the Impreza is defeinently STI. So unless someone got the wing, hood scoop, rims, running borads, and stickers, it's an STI. I know people fake that stuff all the time, but you can usually see right through it.

Finally, I've seen vids of a WRX and an SS, and its not pretty. That car is NOT a plane Jane WRX, its an STI. I wish someone would take their video camera out, find an SS and prove me wrong, but I don't think its going to happen.
I just saw this video, it's finally viewable, and the STi pulled on the SS on the first run from a 100 km/h (60 mph) roll. Then the SS won the second run from another 100 km/h roll. This video fails to show that STi owners should, "Avoid Supercharged SS Cobalts (from a roll) at all costs."

Wow if you guys honestly think a Fuc*ing Cobalt can beat an STi you guys got some serious issues. The Cobalt might have potential to beat an STi..... just NOT STOCK.
