From a roll there’s not as much to screw up (which explains why a ton of ricers do it), and therefore I don’t buy into the whole driver error/skill argument. Since you can set the STI’s Tachometer to beep at 6 k, the only thing the driver has to do is actually shift the car, and keep it going strait. Is it possible to screw up a shift? YES, I’ve done, and so have all of you. Therefor its unlikely that a driver is going to make big difference in this race. From what I saw of this video, I just don’t think that STI was faster than that Cobalt. There could be other factors at play, such as a poorly modified STI, or a modified SS. From what I understand there is a set of overdrive pulleys for that car now, so that could explain some things. Furthermore the video cuts out a little prematurely for my liking. Is it possible that the SS runs out of steam up top? Sure. I would just like to see something to the contrary before we start killing the car.

If you think all driver error is taken out from a roll you are wrong. Maybe he is shifting at 4k, maybe he started in 4th gear, etc. I mean christ look how far back he drops betwen shifts, i've seen old ladies that shift quicker than that. Plus like others said you have no clue on the condition of his car or the colbalts. NOw disregard all that. Lets say the STi was in top notch condition and the driver was driving it well. This is one STi out of thousands made. There is such thing as getting a crappy motor. On average, the Colbat is going to get his *** handed to him on a silver platter with chips on the side. The numbers how it all. The STi on average makes more power and traps higher...period. I personally think its just a bad driver. A lot of Supra (2jz-gte) owers with 400+ WHP run 14s because they just can't drive (well that and traction, but i'm trying to convey a point). But take the video as you want. If you want to be afraid to race a Colbalt SS then be my guest, but that's more pathetic than losing to one in my opinion.

IWSTI Addict since: Nov 2003 | okay first off that guy in the white STi did not know how to drive he shifted at around roughly 6k RPMs and also that looked like a horrible launch he revved up at the last second and dropped the clutch at like 4-5k which is awful... he got a triple bog effect from doing that. 2004 2005 Make Subaru Chevrolet Model Impreza Cobalt Trim WRX STi (USA) SS Supercharged Transmission 6-speed Manual 5-speed Manual Theoretical Top Speed 154 mph 143 mph Limited Top Speed 146 mph 0-30 mph 1.42 s 2.05 s 0-40 mph 2.49 s 3.54 s 0-50 mph 3.39 s 4.78 s 0-60 mph 4.88 s 6.10 s 0-70 mph 6.19 s 8.42 s 0-80 mph 8.19 s 10.54 s 0-90 mph 10.09 s 12.93 s 0-100 mph 12.49 s 16.77 s 0-110 mph 15.88 s 20.86 s 0-120 mph 19.53 s 26.17 s 0-130 mph 24.62 s 38.02 s 0-140 mph 33.44 s 63.22 s 0-150 mph 50.05 s 30-50, 2nd gear 1.67 s 2.52 s Street Start, 5-60 mph 5.84 s 5.82 s 100 ft 2.59 s @ 40.99 mph 3.11 s @ 36.73 mph 500 ft 7.13 s @ 73.92 mph 8.07 s @ 68.28 mph 660 ft (1/8 mile) 8.53 s @ 81.93 mph 9.59 s @ 75.56 mph 1320 ft (1/4 mile) 13.36 s @ 102.25 mph 14.78 s @ 95.88 mph 2640 ft (1/2 mile) 21.27 s @ 123.88 mph 23.31 s @ 115.1 mph |
