You know...I was watching this and thinking (dangerous, I know!) what exactly is against the law when doing donuts? I wouldn't call it wreckless since you are nearly stationary and the cars relative movement is near zero....so what is the big deal? Makes me want to go do some donuts...tortfeasor chime in please (wont be considered advice...just put a disclaimer ).

You're breaking traction. Technically you don't have control of the car since the wheels aren't making traction. I say this as it's considered a wreckless driving ticket in VA, and one of the signs of wreckless driving here is breaking traction.

I think a good attorney could get you out of any "broke traction" tickets.

You can be popped for display of power, unnecessary acceleration, or the catch-all "reckless driving"... unfortunately it all depends on the mood of the cop.

I dunno... if you go into the donut by just turning and giving it gas (like he did in the video) it shouldn't be too hard on the car besides melting tires, right?

Every time I see this video I think "wow that guy is an idiot" I have done doughnuts on a frozen parking lot only, bearly needed to touch the gas. Doughnuts on dry pavment are just plain beatin your car.

I've gotten popped for unnecessary acceleration twice, basically if you chirp your tires they will write you for that (once was total bs, I was coming out of a mall right after I learned to drive stick - so it was a smooth surface and a noob on the clutch... the other was most assuredly deserved since I peeled out in my supercharged 4Runner not realizing there was an Indiana State Trooper in an unmarked car directly behind me... I'll always remember him - I kid you not his name was Trooper Cool.)
