Car's got almost 70k on it and it hasnt seen a normal day of driving. He drives it hard, wins doing it, and isn't afraid to break it. Not sure I see why he's getting crap over it.

Probably getting crap for it because most people are not inclined to push it as hard as your friend does. Lots of people, including me, are focused on taking care of the equipment. If I heard a noise like that, I'd shut it down and find out what the problem was.

But, different strokes for different folks.
