Sweet car! You have to get that 2zz rapped up higher through the corners to stay in the power band though! Man that reminds me of my Celica GTS days listening to that engine and waiting forever for 6000rpm to come so that you can get some power! Fun stuff. Will the Greddy SC for the GTS fit the Elise?

There are several SC kits, one being a modified Greddy, others are ExigeS based and now will be Elise SC based.

I may go SC... we'll see...

Hey Tom, what can you tell me about the drawbacks with the Elise? Aside from the obvious of course. How's the maintenance? Are parts priced high because it's an Elise?

I just realized that if I sold my STi I can afford one. I may be looking into it.

I've only had the car for a bit, so I'll try my best to give an honest impression with the limited experience I have with it...

Maintenance.... inside the engine by, it's all Toyota. Engine is Celica GT-s and so is the tranny... so parts are not "expensive" but I haven't needed to replace anything yet. Oil filters are available at any auto parts stores.
Brakes...
The front brakes are the rear pads of the STI...so you can find plenty of cheapish pads if that's your goal. The brakes on the car are overbuilt so you don't really need to do anything but run good pads and flush fluid when needed...if you track.

The big differences, besides the obvious "looks" department, is how the car actually drives compared to the STI. Hop out of one and into another and you'd swear that neither car comes from the same planet. The Lotus is hardwired into your brain, it reacts instantly.... I turn-in early everywhere...
Driving the cars requires a different level of skill - the STI often made me look like a hero on the track, like I had skill... like "I" was fast. The Lotus made me realize that "I" am not fast... don't posess skill... and that I need to focus on driving properly. The STI allowed me to slide into turns...miss apexes... plant the throttle and torque my way out of anything with enough corner exit speed to spank almost anything in front of me..... the Lotus laughs at my attempts of driving it fast...whispering things like "you little puzzy, you know you could have entered that turn at least 10mph faster with a later turn-in"... "go put on a skirt next time to leave that much room at corner-exit"... and the best of all... "you think that's where you're supposed to brake?...you can go pee sitting down and then come back and you'd still be braking too early you wuss"....
It is a wonderful teacher and I enjoy every lesson I'm blessed to experience.

Then I get into the STI and can relax... it's got power, doesn't make every paint mark in the street feel like a speed bump, and I dont' feel like a Miata can drive over me like a monster truck.

For an everday car... the Lotus is not even something with which to suffer, it's way too focused as a sports car...a race car that can be legally driven on the street.

Be good,
TomK
