IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2004 Trader Rating: (14) | I was too busy working on the car for most of the weekend to set up the camera but on Monday I finally put it in the car for a session. It had been raining all morning and this was in the afternoon after the track had dried out quite a bit so I was anxious to get in some fast laps. In the passenger's seat is Brian (brianmcd on here), who unfortunately didn't bring his STi out this weekend (he was there helping out his dad) but at least he got an opportunity to get out on the track As you can probably see, the car's setup was not too good. Too much toe out in the rear=snap oversteer, and the lack of wing is really starting to be a problem, especially under braking and passing at high speed. You can see me fighting with the wheel a bit when I come over the crest of the hill on the back straight at around 140mph. My main goal in the offseason is to get the car's aero sorted, which means big ass wing and front splitter. Anyways, enjoy.Part 1 Part 2 This ad is not endorsed by this member. IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2005 Trader Rating: (8) | How much toe out are you running?? I've driven a car with some MASSIVE toe out and did just fine. The rotation is insane and you have to be ready for it.. I'd love to talk to you about it sometime. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2004 Trader Rating: (14) | About .18 in the rear. I really like the rotation I get in the tighter stuff but to me it's not worth the tradeoffs. The car is just too unstable under braking and in high speed sweepers, and it even wants to wander when I'm going in a straight line once I reach higher speeds. I'm considering keeping a bit of toe out and just backing it off a little, but IIRC the car rotated pretty well even with 0 toe. The only reason I have the toe out in the first place is the moron who aligned my car last time stripped the toe adjustment bolt (and then said it was like that before) so I just had him match the other side. From now on nobody does my alignments other than Andrewtech. |

VIR really is an amazing track, and this is just one of several configurations there. They have a whole infield section called the Patriot Course, and when Full and Patriot are combined to form the Grand Course it's incredible. I believe that layout is over 4 miles. | |

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2004 Trader Rating: (1) | Good driving Dan. As for the rear toe, I think 0toe is way to go for our cars on road courses. Think toe out would be better setup for maybe autox. There are other ways to make the car rotate better. Then again, seems like Ross has good experience with such a setup. |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2004 Trader Rating: (1) | Great driving, Dan...looks like you had some good fun. I'm considering making a trip down to run that track next season, people seem to like it and I can see why. The toe... here's where we are a little different. I run 1/8 toe out up front and 1/8 toe in out back. I can't say I've ever had an issue with getting the car turned, except in autox...where the set-ups there would be borderline dangerous on the track. I look forward to the completion ofyour engine mods...been thinking about doing something there, too. Be good and thanksfor the vids, TomK |

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2004 Trader Rating: (14) | It's worth the trip Tom, definitely a world class track. I'm actually going to try and make it to a couple events up in your neck of the woods next season...Watkins Glen and Limerock are 2 tracks I've been wanting to visit. I really didn't have rotation issues with 0 toe all around, the only reason I went to the rear toe out is that I took my car to a "trusted" alignment guy the day before an event and he stripped one of the rear toe adjustment bolts, so I just told him to match the other side. I got a new bolt though so I'm going to take the car to Andrewtech and have them cut the old one off and realign the car. After I install my next round of suspension mods of course ![]() Engine mods should be insane. I just hope the stock brakes can handle the additional speed. I've had my eye on a Stoptech 355mm kit but I'm not even close to being able to afford it right now |
