Default Pro VS Amature: Hotlap at Thunderhill

Pro VS Amature

Here is a video of my last event at Thunderhill. What is shown is one lap by two different drivers side by side.

Thunderhill Raceway, Clockwise Subie TV

The audio is from the video on the left, driven by Brian Lock. It cuts out at the end as I could not get the two different audio streams to overlay properly.

Have fun!
Evan

Great runs, it seems to me like you guys are runing the same line but the pro is more willing to push the car harder. My guess he's not the owner.

Yea, i blew the spelling. Sorry, and it took to long to edit it to go back and fix it.

Evan

No he is not the owner, I am. I am not pushing the car as hard because I'm not entirely comfortable at the limit. I need more seat time.

Those were my thoughts exactly. You have to work up to trusting yourself at higher speeds, a few more track days & this guy will be right with the "Pro".

Brian is on the Left, I am on the right. Basically, Brian = Faster, Me = Slower.

Very cool video! It looked to me like Brian carried a lot more speed into the turn entries. As an owner, I tend to be "slow in-fast out" like the driver on the right. Aside from that I thought both drivers looked quite nice.

I have a few questions if you wouldn't mind.

What can you tell me about the car? How is it set up? What engine mods? Suspension mods? What kind of lap times are you able to run in the CCW direction?

Thanks.

Lap times in clockwise (reverse) mode are comparable to counter clockwise lap times, about 1-2 seconds slower going clockwise.

The car is an 05 STi owned by myself. The car has a full roll cage and is mostly gutted, though not fully, yet. Engine mods are around a stage 2 and a little more on top of it. In the video the turbo is cracked. It hold enough boost for a street car, but for a race car it isn't enough. Peak power is around 270whp on a mustang dyno, and around 300wtq.

Suspension is the works. Unfortunately I have skimped on the coilovers and only have RCE Tarmac 2's. Why they are good, they just don't cut it for real track duty. 600lbs front and 500lbs rear. You name it, the piece is probably on the car.

A vf43 is going in tomorrow and a retune next week before the Redline Time Attack in which I will compete in the street class. (The car is still street registered, and will use street tires. It also hasn't been fully gutted to be able to compete in the street class).

The car also has substantial aero dynamic work, custom diffuser, splitter, and flat-bottom. All of which was done by Calculated Risk.

So you are saying Racecomp's T2 is not good enough for the Time Attack street class event with stiffer springs like 700 front and 600 rear?

Can you run a GT-35R setup for the street class all else following the street class rules?
