Default Watkins Glen - 10/14/07 - InCarVideo

My head is still reeling from this weekend. Two days, marred by multiple crashes (not me) with near-freezing temps and rain...and it was the most awesome...as in "full of awe"... track experience I've ever had the pleasure of tasting. I cannot wait to go back...

These vids are from the second day, after it rained all morning. First session was with my instructor, who signed me off for BLUE (HPDE3), to show me the "rain line"...and how to hunt for traction. I did not record that session.

Second session was just after it stopped raining...it was misting and the track was quite wet. One learns quite a bit on how their car handles when attacking a track in the wet...

Subie TV

Third session was solo...and it dried out somewhat. Burned-out stock tires and cold temps didn't help traction much but I was able to start out first in the group and more than hold the position...I even lapped a few drivers...a couple just before this next vid starts. I did notice from watching the vids that I am more aggressive hunting than running by myself. It appears that I work on technique and reference points when by myself but turn it up several notches when chasing other drivers....go figure...
A few clean laps and then hunting down another STI...

Subie TV

...edit... experiment with audio... Subie TV

And special thanks to Alex (2slow2curious) for the custom camera mount...it is awesome!!!!

Be good,
TomK

nice videos. Looks like the car was handling really well even in the wet. What all do you have done to the suspension?

Thats a Great track. Im usually up to that track at least twice a year to watch some races(Historic car, Indy cars).

Nice smooth driving by the way in the rain. That looks really good. The car sounds mean too!

Thanks, it really did handle phenomenally in the wet...even with the stiff springs.

Racecomp T2s...600/500 rates.
RCE Front Plates (lowering), Group N rears.
Whiteline 27mm front bar - set on 29mm setting
Whiteline 24mm rear bar - set on 26mm setting
Kartboy endlinks front and rear
Whiteline Anti-Lift Kit Sport
Whiteline Roll Center Adjusters - balljoints and tie-rods
Whiteline rear subframe lockdown bolts
Whiteline rear camber bolts
As you can see, I'm a fan of the Whiteline offerings.
...oh, and a Recaro Speed driver's seat with a Schroth harness....the stock seat was too high for me and not very supportive or comfortable.

Thanks, the car was one of, if not, the loudest cars there. Only a few "race" cars were louder...and I still think I could use more sound "in the car".

Be good,
TomK

Really surprised about the grip ofthe stock tires...still good.

Tom did really well and is loading vids up this evening, so I should have some more good video to put up. He uses a great video system...lipstick cams both front and back.

Really, great job with the camera mount...it is much more stable than my last set-up and less intrusive. Thank you so much!!!

Here's an editing experiment that I think went quite well...something new for me, although I don't think I'll make a habit of it...

YouTube - WatkinsBecoming

I think the different audio tracks meld quite well together.

And I am pumped for LRP!!!!

Be good,
TomK

Nice vids Tom, great driving!

All 6 of our cars were at the track this weekend, was wondering if you caught a glimpse of them?

A glimpse?...they were running around like raped apes!!!!
Really, great to see the XXCrew at the track...come to think of it, I've never been to a track-day that didn't have XXTuning cars present...and the reason why I'll only let you tune the car.
Which, btw, ran like a dream...great job and thank you so much.

And thanks for the kind words.

If you watch the "Wet" session video above, until the very end, you'll see a white E30 crashed against the wall...
