Talking The Brake Man Super Lightweight 2-Piece Time Attack Rotors all STIs: Now with PICS!!!

This group buy is for the Brake Man lightweight 2-piece Time Attack racing rotors. These are the lightest, highest quality rotors you can find for your STI. As you may remember, I ran these on my old race car about 2-3 years ago. They are the best rotors I've ever tested, hands down. About 20 other people also purchased these rotors around the same time during my original group buy and were also blown away.

The Brake Man has adapted their Time Attack rotors to fit under the STI's Brembo calipers. A pair of front Brake Man front rotors saves 20 pounds of unsprung, rotating weight from the front of your car. There is nothing out there that transforms the braking, acceleration, and handling of your car like this. The hats are drilled for both 5x100 and 5x114.3 bolt patterns so this will fit any year GD & GR (04-09) STI. This also helps out tremendously with the resale value of the rotors as you can sell them to a much larger market of people. If you buy the brake rotors now, you can always buy The Brake Man calipers as an add-on in the future.

With that said I am starting a new group buy, and here's the best part: Warren at the Brake Man has agreed to let me sell these rotors to the first 10 people for the DEALER price. Yes, you read that correctly. The DEALER price.

The pricing will be $999 shipped for the front rotors with hats. That's over $200 off of the normal price. This includes the discs, hats, and wired lock nuts. Replacement discs (not that you'll ever need them) are about half of that price as you do not need to buy hats again. I never had to replace my rotors in over 20 track days, so if you manage to kill these rotors and have to buy a replacement disc I solute you .

For those interested in more than just rotors, Warren is letting me extend the dealer pricing to the complete front KITS as well. This includes:

F4 Tornado Calipers
2-Piece lighweight rotors
Stainless Steel brake lines
And your choice of #3 (race) or #93 (street) brake pads

The pricing for the complete front kit is $2199 shipped if you are one of the first 10 people to purchase.

This group by will be managed by me. If you have any questions about the brake man products just reply to this thread and I will answer your questions. I've used and tested every single product that is being sold in this group buy. As a courtesy to me, SO JDM will be handling the shipping and credit card processing.

It is strongly recommended that The Brake Man pads be used with these rotors. Failure to use The Brake Man pads could result in a substantially short rotor life because of the aggressive and abrasive compounds found in a lot of cheap pads on the market, like EBC or Hawk pads for example. Running air/ducting to these rotors should also improve their performance on the track and extend their life. The inner face of the rotors' swept area is not as wide as the stock Brembo rotors by about ~10-15% so slight lip may develop on the inner front brake pad. The Brake Man has assured us that this poses no safety issues and that this does not adversely affect brake performance. If you have any questions regarding this, Cory or Warren (the owner) have made themselves available by phone: The Brake Man.com - Contact Us

There are currently rotors in stock and ready to ship. These orders do not require a deposit as the full amount will just be charged and the rotors will shipped the same day. A new batch of rotors is currently being produced and will be available in May. If the current supply of rotors sells out, deposits will be held on the rotors that will be available in May. I will update this thread when the currently supply of rotors sells out.

Please reply to this thread if you are interested in the rotors or a complete kit and I will add you to the list. I will then PM you a special link that will allow you to pay for the rotors and other products via the SO JDM online store. Once the first 10 sets of rotors are sold the price will return to $1199.

***Please note that the rotors are not 100% identical to OEM size. They will bolt up and work fine with the stock Brembo calipers but the inside rotor surface is slightly smaller than stock. Due to this slight variance, a small lip (8mm or so) may form on the inside brake pad after heavy use. The lip on the pad has NO affect on the brake performance of the rotor and is purely cosmetic. The lip can be ignored or ground off when it forms. We can also supply you with instructions on how to grind part of your inside pad down to eliminate any possibility of the lip forming in the first place.

---------------

Weight Comparison

Rotor Weights and Disc Face Thickness as measured by snorky. Measured using digital scale and digital calipers. 4 thickness measurements were taken around the perimeter of each rotor and averaged.

Stock (Worn)
22lb 2oz (29.50mm)
22lb 1oz (29.46mm)

DBA 5000 (Lightly Used)
19lb 4oz (30.03mm)
19lb 5oz (30.06mm)

Brake Man (Band New)
12lb 10oz (31.65mm)
12lb 12oz (31.51mm)

Rear rotors and calipers are also available but will eliminate your parking brake. Needless to say, this won't make sense for many people. If you want pricing on the rear rotors or a kit let me know as I can extend the dealer price to you for the rears if they are purchased with the fronts. I will personally be running both the front and rear kit on my new race car, but I only ran the front kit on my old race car with fantastic results.

The rear rotors weigh 5.25 pounds with the hat and will NOT work with the factory brembo calipers. They look like this:

Pad Pricing (if purchased with the rotors):

#3 race pads (for brembo calipers):
Front: $289
Rear: $149

#93 street pads (for brembo calipers):
Front: $69
Rear $39

Alright Ben...put me down for a set of Front rotors!

Would I able to get a full set of #9 pads too or should I just order those separately?

Appreciate your efforts here.

I can get you dealer pricing on the #9 pads if they are purchased with the rotors. I don't know the price off-hand, but it's obviously going to be cheaper than if you bought them separately. I'll call Warren or Cory tomorrow (they closed about 30 minutes ago) and find out what the dealer price is on the pads.

Thanks! Only one more person to go (not bad for the first hour! )

Thanks for checking on the #9 pads for me.

I'd love to do a full kit (I'd really love fronts and rears) but I've just taken on a huge amount of debt to expand my business and just can't justify it even though its a great price. Maybe I'll upgrade to the calipers later

Well that is definitely the nice thing about these rotors, they work with either caliper. You can buy the rotors now and get the calipers another time. That's what I did originally .

I'll let you know about the #9 pads tomorrow. They are considerably cheaper than the #3's so I think with the dealer pricing they will be really cheap (sub $100...but don't quote me on that).

A-Man: The front #93 pads are $69 if purchased with the rotors. I told you my price would be cheap! These pads are recommended for the street and short track sessions. These would be GREAT for autocross. If you plan on doing serious track sessions let me know as you would want the #3's instead.

jimmay: Do you want a set of #3 rear pads for the stock brembo calipers to go with your front kit? This would probably be a good idea to even out the brake balance as you'll be quit front biased with #3 pads in the front and not in the rear. If so, the rear #3 pads for the brembos would be $149. The #3's are considerably more expensive than the #93's unfortunately .

I've sent you a PM about the rotors and both types of pads.

Wow...can't believe no one else wants the best rotors out there for Imprezas - especially at this price.

Pony up folks!
