Default ** PerformanceBox, DriftBox Lap Mapping/Analysis, Performance Meters **

If you want the super accurate performance meter many manufacturers and magazines use to test cars and/or an equally accurate lap timer and analysis system which doesn't require a beacon, this is the group buy for you!

There are two basic boxes, the PerformanceBox and the DriftBox.

Both offer realtime data display as well as onboard logging via a standard SD card which you can pop out and insert in a standard SD card reader on your PC for further review and to catalog your performance, line on track etc. etc.

Instead of using accelerometers like GTech, these high tech systems use a very powerful GPS engine which operates using more satellites and a much higher refresh rate than the average GPS systems you may be used to. This allows for extremely precise location and speed measurement, updating 10 times a second from 7 satellites.

One of the features of both these systems and the top of the line Gtech offer is a wheel horsepower feature. We've found Gtech to be extremely inconsistent and thus only good as a toy. I tested it on several cars and I'm getting rid of it. These Racelogic boxes provide very accurate and exceptionally repeatable results. We even did some dyno runs with the DriftBox on flat ground and then up a hill and got readings within 2 whp over and over after 9 runs. We also used 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears and kept getting the same results. Since GPS provides elevation it's all used in the whp calculation allowing great accuracy as long as you estimate the vehicle weight properly or weigh your car. The numbers were right in line with the dyno numbers we're used to seeing. They may seem a little low to those used to seeing inflated dyno numbers, but we feel they're very accurate.

Aside from the performance metering function, I feel these boxes are a no brainer for anyone doing open lapping days, HPDE's, time attacks, or other types of circuit racing. The ability to record lap times, split times, cornering g's, acceleration, braking and your line around the track for every lap is an invaluable tool in helping you improve your driving and the setup on your car. Not having to place a beacon is hugely convenient as you don't need to power the beacon, leave it out in the elements, or worry about it getting hit, knocked over, etc. It can also be a pain to find a good place for a beacon with consistent reception. With these units you just push a button while at or crossing the start/finish and off you go. Splits are added just as easily. Install is also very quick, getting power from the cigarette/power socket, suction cup it to the windshield, align and go. You can share it with friends at track days to compare lap times if you're so inclined.

The PC software is fantastic and allows you to shift laps and more to line them up to compare certain sections etc.

Even cooler, you can export this data to Google Earth and view your line on track to better visualize each turn. There's one turn where it looks like they go through the woods because the track had been altered since google earth took the images. "Note the track has been widened at certain points and at Dingle Dell (Sheene as it know called) the track layout has completely changed as my traces look as though I've gone off the track on a cross country excursion...":

Both units measure:
Acceleration - 0-60, 0-100, 60-130, 60-0, 0-100-0, ¼-mile etc. with options for rollout, custom from and to speeds and more!

Cornering, braking, acceleration Gs with peak memory, average numbers.

Speed and position. Both readings are extremely accurate and can be used to calibrate a speedometer, record the mapping of a trip you take, use it as a compass etc.!

Now onto the differences between the PerformanceBox and DriftBox. As you can see the yaw sensor which enables drift mode is the main difference. The DriftBox also connects to a PC via USB, but both have the SD card which you can use to transfer data to a PC.

If you don't already have an SD card reader and want to view recorded data on your PC, you can purchase one that plugs into a standard USB port for 7-20 dollars. Here's a few:
Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!

And lastly the pricing. I'm posting this on several boards and fully intend to hit the 10 unit mark.

For 10-24 units (PerformanceBox or DriftBox) the pricing is as follows:
PerformanceBox - 459 shipped
DriftBox - 683 shipped

25+ units:
PerformanceBox - 419 shipped
DriftBox - 619 shipped

Remember folks...this isn't a toy. This is the real deal. The DriftBox is used in all competitor cars to aid in scoring at US pro NOPIDrift events and as mentioned these are used for performance testings cars for many popular car magazines, car and part manufacturers, and more!

NY state residents and those receiving shipments in NY state add 8.75% sales tax. Shipped pricing assumes ground shipment with tracking, signature, and insurance within the lower 48 states. Shipping to Hawaii, Alaska, and Canada available for an extra 15 dollars. As usual, all our prices are in US dollars.

Payment can be accepted from Visa/MasterCard via phone, and Paypal verified accounts at sales@InnovativeTuning.com. Deposits will be at the 10-24 unit pricing, and if we hit 25+ we'll refund the difference. Local pickup saves 8 dollars and cash payment is available for in store payments.

This group buy closes Thursday, July 3rd, at 5 PM EST.

I was asked some good questions on another board:
"I have to ask if the 10Hz sampling rate is the max and what is GPS antenna accuracy and is there "drift" adjustment for the antenna? This is of this new and eciting product but those are two things that I've found that really affect how accurate and useable the data ends up being when trying to analyze how to find lost time out on the track."

The response:
Great questions. Drift adjustment is not required since this is not using accelerometers.

10Hz sampling rate is constant, not a peak.

They use doppler shift carrier frequency data to get far more accuracy than what a nav system can do just with standard GPS location info which is normally only good to 3 meters for position and 6 meters for elevation.

Distance is accurate to a tenth of a percent or less, so it can measure a whole quarter mile pass within 1.32 feet or better.

Speed is within 1 tenth of a MPH from 1/3 of a MPH to WAY faster than a car can go. These boxes are often used for salt flats passes etc.

I should have copy/pasted this in the first place, but there's a reason why it looks like they went off course:
There's one turn where it looks like they go through the woods because the track had been altered since google earth took the images. "Note the track has been widened at certain points and at Dingle Dell (Sheene as it know called) the track layout has completely changed as my traces look as though I've gone off the track on a cross country excursion..."

A friend from Honda R&D just mentioned there's a few of these being used at his office for testing. Again this is not a toy like a GTech.

The software is downloadable for free so you can check it out any time:

PerformanceBox:
http://performancebox.co.uk/Download...up_English.zip

DriftBox:
http://driftbox.com/Download/DriftBo...up_English.zip

And here people uploaded circuit files (.cir), splits (.dsf), google earth files (.kml) etc. for the DriftBox software. Mind you they are not log files:

I'll have almost all the units tomorrow according to UPS tracking. The ones I won't have are for stock anyway. I'll post up when they arrive.
