Talking NOW "BURNT" COLORING!!! on the HEAVIEST Shift Knobs available!

Hey guys,

These knobs are lathe-cut from 303 Stainless Steel, which will be the best at resisting rust.

NEW PRODUCT RELEASED 5/21/08!!
"BURNT" Finish Stainless Steel Knobs

Below are two pics of a flame-burnt stainless steel sphere knob. I can perform the flame coloring to any stainless steel shiftknob that I sell, and since I do it by hand, I can customize the flamed appearance. Colors that can be made are:
All Blue, All Purple, All Bronze, Blue fading to purple fading to bronze (shown), Purple fading to bronze.
Cost for flame coloring: +$30 on normal knob cost

The "Brushed" appearance is a brilliant gray luster, with a brushed finish. Here is a pic of the STi Sphere:

and a pic of the STi Piston: (I can customize the size for your preference. This one is 3" tall so your whole hand can wrap around it vertically)

(5speed WRX knobs available too, Post up here if you want one)
The total weight of the STi Sphere knob is 465 grams, this is 1.02 pounds
The total weight of the STi Piston knob is 526 grams, this is 1.16 pounds!
The total weight of the WRX Sphere knob is 550 grams, this is 1.20 pounds
The total weight of the WRX Piston knob is 485 grams, this is 1.07 pounds!
This will surely answer those who have asked for a very solid shift feel

Weight Comparison Chart:
69g - Stock 04/05 STi Knob
180g - Stock 06-08 STi Knob
105g - My Copolymer/Brass STi Sphere
170g - My Aluminum STi Sphere
465g - 550g - My NEW Stainless Steel Knobs

My Driving Impressions with the Stainless knobs: I just drove around town with the first Stainless Sti Sphere and then the Piston, and I was impressed by the improvement in driveability. The heavy weight of the steel knob compressed into such a small (2" diameter / 1.5" diameter piston) controllable shape makes shifting easy, meaning the momentum of the knob shifts it through the gears without needing as much force during the throw. I would guess this knob would improve quick shift sequences like during AutoX, drag, and road course racing. Since the shape is the same as the copolymer and aluminum spheres I make, the weight advantage is quite nice. I like the heavy knob a LOT more than I expected I would. I made these for you guys, expecting to hate the heavy feel, but I like it!

both of these are designed to fit low over the shifter, allowing for the reverse ring to slide into the bottom of the knob. The sphere sits 1/4" lower than the stock knob, the piston sits at the same height, but is taller overall.

These are HAND MADE so I can do customization. Just ask if you have an idea

Wow, these look awesome... I'm wondering if one could be made using depleted uranium or a sealed lead core so it's even heavier. > )

im not too sure i can buy any of those materials, although they would be heavy.

I've got 2 dozen buyers of these types so far, everyone has really liked the knobs. Check the vendor announcement thread to read some reviews of these knobs.

Do you have any pics of the engraved stainless? I'd go for red engraved stainless, but after reading the other thread I wasn't sure if you got the pattern alignment right.

For all engraved knobs, I include a set screw and allen key. this screw sits inside the knob and you use the key to adjust its position. Changing the position changes the stop-position of the knob when it is tight so you can align it right. The knob will sit 0.15" taller than normally since the screw takes up some of the hole depth, but thats not something your hand would really notice.
Engraving is done by 10th street jdm, so I have to ship the knob to him to engrave on the laser machine. Its going to cost me around $40 with shipping to do it, so that is your cost.

Not right away, but I'm planning to make a large inventory of knobs to send half for black coating in the upcoming month. Right now, only brushed finish is available

about time

what type of coating is it? If it could some rubberized coating, it would be nice to inslute heat from the metal.

Its an electro-chemical chrome oxide coating, similar to anodizing for aluminum. It will not be rubberized, there is no coating like that which will hold up to your hand touching it every day for a long time.
This coating is going to cost me 2.5 times as much as the anodizing does.
I am sending a sample to the finishers to get an SS STi Sphere coated black. I'll post up pictures of it when its ready!

Price will most likely be around $110 shipped for this item. I will be selling the sample piece if it comes out good.

Interested in a black stainless steel 2.5" diameter sphere with deep wide grooves to replace the copolymer one you made me about a year ago. Pm me a price if you can do it. Thanks.

I can do grooving patterns on the sphere knobs too.
Groove option: +$5.00

this pic shows two "grip grooves" located on the bottom of the knob where your fingers would grab on
