IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2004 Trader Rating: (0) | Crawford Performance has been working on a new short block package which incorporates a Crawford Performance Billet Stroker Crank. The new short block will have a displacement of 2.6 liters and the name for it has not be designated yet. We thought we would offer some insight into a new short block and the results we have thus far. From the tuners perspective the short block package is not a peaky horsepower motor, instead it offers a wide power band, capable of making 500 wheel horsepower across the entire power band. Tuning the engine is similar to tuning most Crawford Performance engines, one step at a time. From the racers point of view having a wide flat power band makes it easier to control and understand the car in and out of the corner. While being a 2.6 liter it also offers a better throttle response over a standard 2.5 liter, making it quicker out of the corner and up to speed. Wheel Horsepower (green) Boost Graph (blue) For the tuners out there we chose to run 31 PSI at peak Torque and then slowly drop it off to 29 PSI by redline. While this engine can run 31 PSI all the way to redline, we found that the power difference was minimal at best with 31 PSI at redline over 29. So dropping it down 29 PSI will in the long run keep the engine cooler and keep the car more consistent especially in hot racing conditions. The 720cc injector duty cycles on Delta Dash were reaching upwards of 85% duty cycle. According to EcuTeK that makes the actual duty cycle's of these injectors under 70% duty cycle, which is 10% lower the recommended limit of the injector duty cycle. Accelerations G's (green) Flywheel Torque (blue) The G acceleration is closely tied to the torque, and takes into account the weight of the car. The G's are a good way to compare heavy vehicle with lots of power to a light car with less power. Just because you have 500 wheel horsepower doesn't mean you will beat a 250 wheel horsepower Hayabusa. On our dyno chart simulator you can compare various turbo's and engines to give you a better idea of what various parts will do on your own vehicle. For the professional drivers out there a lot of low end G's will have a quick acceleration out of the corners but not pull very well up top. Where as a lot of G's high in the rev range will have great top end but be killer in the corners. A well balanced G acceleration graph will give power everywhere that is needed on a track but this is a very hard thing to accomplish. This is our R&D project that will offer a better range for multiple race tracks. Flywheel Horsepower (green) Flywheel Torque (blue) This is our standard Flywheel Horsepower and Flywheel Torque. This is another way to view and compare data collected by the dyno to compare to a stock Subaru STi. Cheers, Crawford Performance I-Speed USA This ad is not endorsed by this member.
