Just curious- how would this compare to the el cheapo eBay special I bought? I may want to upgrade in the future to a quality unit.

Ever think of pre-spraying them with the heat conductive paint you tried a while back?

Interesting point, I'd imagine it should be beneficial.

THAT is a good idea, but I imagine it would kill the warranty so we'd have to be on our own. In other words there would have to be pretty big demand for it. As for beneficial, from out own seat of the pants and hand on the IC tests there was a significant difference.

Now, for real data, when I looked into it way back when a bunch of the mini guys did it and saw a decrease in charge temp of about 20*.

there's a bunch of little things done to this that makes it expensive. While it may, on the surface, look the same as some of the el cheapos it's these small things that add up on the cost.

We've slowly been getting into more motor stuff as our fancy and pocketbook allows. I've actually been working on something completely new for about 6 months now, but time has been too tight to really put a lot into it. From the preliminary flow models my idea is very sound, and doable, but now we need to fine tune. That's where tons of time comes in because while you may have a good concept you want the best execution you can achieve that's reasonable.

As for the IC, a while back we were in talks with Bell Intercoolers (as in Corky Bell's company) to co-develop an IC. It was going to be very expensive, but with what we had figured out, was going to be the end all, be all of ICs for the Subaru. Sadly, they choose to stop working on the project and focus their efforts on one of the new turbo volvo setups instead. Personally, I don't feel the project is dead, but I'm having a hard time finding a company of Bell IC caliber to work with.
