IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2005 Trader Rating: (8) | We just started shipping or shorty divorced wastetgate downpipe for the 08's and many folks asked if we would be doing a catback. The answer of course is "yes". We've been banging around ideas with our exhaust engineering partner and today after some final discussion points I can share some of what will be going into the system and some of the general design elements. First off, it will be a Whisper catback meaning it will stick with the theme of having the best balance of db level, sound character, and flow capacity. Whisper exhausts are best known for their charasmatic sound and no drone without the need of a resonator. Our 08 STi units need to be the same to get the "Whisper" name. Some of the other general details. * 3" Catback * Quad 3.5" Slash-Cut Resonated Double Walled tips(if they fit, otherwise same style but smaller). 2 on each side. These are the same tips we currently use on the Whisper Single and Dual Tip catbacks for the 04-07 STi. We think the size and look will be "purposeful" without being over-the-top. Our intent style wise is to make an exhaust that looks like it could have been a factory performance option. I am a fan of double walled resonated tips for serveral reasons. One, they don't yellow/discolor like many single tip units do, the outter layer is cooler than the inside layer so it keeps high heat away from the bumper, and finally the resonated tips add to the sound character. * A unique downipe mating flange. A true 3" but with considerations made that allow it to fit with a factory downpipe without worry of leaks and without the 2.5" tapers so many other 3" exhausts use. * Will utilize the same imported, patented German exhaust packing material used in current Whispers, that contributes to the refined sound quality Whisper catbacks are famous for. * Center inlet into the canister. We want the unit to use the least restrictive path into the canister so we will be utilizing an inlet into the canister that enters into the center rear rather than snaking around the side. The 3" inlet immediately splits into two separate 2 3/8" baffles in the canister. This creates a nice equal length flow and offers plenty of baffle area to damped the db level without restricting the need of more bends that could restrict the flow. * The two baffle cores will split into a Y as they exit the left and right side of the canister giving each of the 4 tips a separte flow path out of the canister. We feel this will will help with the db levels and contribute to the overall sound character rather than having a single exit on each side that goes into a split set of Y tips at the end(which admittantly would make the system cost less). We expect to have 2 test mules in the next 30-45 days. We'll have an idea about pricing at that time as well and are making arrangements for dyno testing along with the new shorty downpipe. More to come.... R. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. Last edited by daddysscp; 07-03-2008 at 11:40 PM. |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2005 Trader Rating: (8) | Our exhaust fabricator is working right now on fabrication of the internal baffle design. If they were working on our products alone it would already be done, but I suspect the first test mule is still a good 30-40 days away. They were just spending time doing a custom project for the new Nissan GT-R and they have to balance new development work among all their clients. We like to think we're their only one. R. |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2005 Trader Rating: (8) | OK guys - here is a deal for someone. We need to get a car into our fabricators shop. We've been trying to work with a local dealer but can't get a car in on the lift for a skeleton fitment. We're going to need a car in the shop for about a full day. If you can spare your car for a day we'll offer up a production catback to you at half-price. I don't have resale price set yet but you can bet it will be in the neighborhood of of $699 - 799 so this should save you somewhere around $350-400 for the use of your car for fitting purposes only. No one is going to be joying riding it. Our fabricator is in the Fountain Valley area of CA. , if you are interested PM a cell phone we can reach you at and I'll have our fabricator buzz you directly to make arrangements for a time that works well for both of you.
