Default AutoMaster AMR Needs Your Input!!

Guys,




I am trying to put together a huge tech section on our site which will consist of what is what, DYI, etc...

I need your input and ideas on what should go in and what we should do write ups on.


What we got so far: Auto Master AMR - TECH SECTION

Hi Rob,

A tech section is definitely a good one.

My suggestions

The bolt ons or easy upgrades

1. Turbo upgrades, having tech data with the air flow of the popular turbos and the est power it can make.

2. Injector size. How much power can an injector make with around 80% IDC and with the stock fuel pressure.

3. Fuel pump data, whether or not to put 1 or 2 walbro fuel pumps for a given hp target. I myself bought 1150cc/min DW injectors from RSD, I figured I only need 1 walbro 255L/hr fuel pump.

1150cc/min = 1.150L/min
1.150L/min x 4 = 4.6L/min
4.6L/min x 60 = 276L/min
276/min x 80% IDC = 220.8L/hour

I just don't know if the fuel pump output gets affected under hi speed cornering.

4. Effects of octane on hp. How much octane boost will it be to put one 32fl.oz of torco to a full tank of 91 octane, how much hp can be gained. How much hp to be gained putting toulene in the tank.

5. Upgraded ignition coils. At what hp level does an STi need to upgrade the ignition coil, how much potential hp to be gained, drawbacks like signal interference etc etc.

6. Ignition timing. How much advance or retard for a given rpm, boost, load etc.

7. Meth injection. What percentage of meth to water works and what it exactly does. When to have the meth injected, under boost or rpm or what.

8. Tuning, the difference and advantages and limitations of ECMs.

9. Advantages of using silicone hoses like Samco in durability/performance.

10. Thermostat. Or the removal or thermostat in hot climate if there is any
advantage

11. Sparkplugs. Stock, one step colder or two stepps colder, iridium, copper etc, advantage and problems.

12. Ignition amplifier. Whether needed or not, at what hp needed, probs with it, etc

The expensive upgrades

1. To sleeve or not to sleeve. At what hp level you need to sleeve your block. The difference and advantages/problems of a dry and wet sleeve. The price of sleeving. Brands of sleeve like darton.

2. Engine displacements and rpm limits. Advantage/problems with a longer stroke and bigger bore pistons. The effects of the piston/rods weight to the crank and rod bearings. Will a larger piston decrease the rev limit bc of the increase weight? What about a longer stroke engine to have a bigger displacement? Will the lenght of the rods affect the rev limit of the engine?

3. Forged vs Billet cranks. It's always hard to decode whether to buy a billet crank or stay with the the stock. It's very expensive and we want to know what are the cost/benifits effects.

4. Effects of high cr pistons. How much torque/power is gained and what are the problems like knock etc etc.

5. Coatings and cryogenics. Advantages and difference of coatings.

6. Metallurgy. Metallurgy of pistons, rods, cranks. Which is more durable and which is weaker. Although that can be debatable

7. Lubricants. Oil for break in built engine and how many mi to break in and how to break in your built motors.

8. Gearbox. Gear ratio/torque power for drag racers(not me!!!) and track as well. A lot of people brag about their high hp in the mid band but lose power in the top end so it would be nice to know the effects. I personally like to have huge power on 6000 to 8000rpm

9. Aerodynamics. How much drag does the STi have, how much power needed to get to 200+mph (I hope I can push my car that fast) Which aero kits work, etc etc

10. Effects of seibon CF CW style hood in cooling the engine bay, etc etc

I'll post more when I think of something else
