My guess is thats going to be whoa $. I'm thinking way over $2k. Come guys, looks at how much a CF hood costs. Now try to make it into a bunch of pipes!

Here's what I'm worried about. Chime in, lets see what we can dismiss/look into further:

1) I'm wondering about the reliability also. How do you guys think CF is going to hold up when a rock hits it? It's structural integrity is gone at that point, and should be considered a liability and replaced. CF is great stuff for certain applications but can be damaged to be unserviceable very easily. Remember that its a fiber, so once it's "cut" it can lose its strength. If anyone here know about CF structure of bikes, you'll at least see where I'm coming from.

2) What about constant expansion/contraction from heat? This one I'm not sure on, but I'm going to guess CF expands and contracts a large amount with heat. So how would it hold up on a regular, day to day deal? What about the track? So if CF is stronger than I was thinking in number 1, what about when you mix in number 2(heat expansion)?

^^^I would think that since the end tanks are usually covered by the bumper (depending on the core size) that reliability from rock chips, etc. would not be a huge concern...although if u did somehow end up with a crack in the c/f it prob. would be the end of the intercooler...

Cobb would do good to produce a FMIC regular version with a black core and aluminum endtanks, but offer the piping in CF as an option, as well as a FMIC with the carbon end tanks, that way people could have more options if money is tight... my .02

Well you have it backwards on this one. Carbon Fibers actually have a very low heat expansion ration, and high diminsional stability. Problem would lie in its thermal conductivity. I'm not sure exactly what it is in comparison to the stainless pipes FMIC usually have but if it's greater then it would need some type of thermal coating to keep the chare pipe to the intake from heating up too much.

Trey from Cobb actually said that there are *some gains from the CF piping, however minimal they might be...its really just looks, and a large price tag to boot lol.

Id be worried about rock chips to, even minor cracking in carbon fiber could deteriorate rapidly, especially when introduced to rain or snow.

i would assume that cf would conduct heat at a lower rate than al

tmic doesn't have to be cf, just efficient
