Default Quick question about Drill Bits ...

Hey guys, I'm about to install my V-Limited Lip and had a question about some drill bits. I went to Aces, Autozone, Lowes, and some other hardware stores to search for some Metric Drill Bits but couldn't find anything. On the instructions for installing the V-Limited Lip, it states that I need the sizes 3, 5, and 9mm drill bits.

All I could find at the stores were Standard drill bits, and I was wondering if I could/should just use a smaller bit size than the sizes above, in metric, and than just wrap the drill bits in some kind of tape to add some width to it or something?

Any ideas or suggestions ..?

Thanks!

hum i didnt even know there were specific "sized" to drill bits. I just got a set that had a wide array from really small to really big. I just match up a bit thats a smidge smaller than the screw and use that one. Good luck!

as long as their close you should be fine as the bolts will not move around once tightened

Drill bigger than the screw/bolt, smaller than the washer and or nut.

Get a good COMPLETE set of Imperial (inch) drill bits. Their sizes are close enough that you will not need any metric sizes. (I actually dont think they even have those). Get a good set which includes Letter and Number and Fraction size drills. They may come in three separate cases, or all in a big one, but thats all youll need.

Or you can just convert those mm sizes 3,5,9 to inch and get the closest size inch drill bits.
Ill check my tap/drill chart when I get home and tell you the proper size bits tonight.

3mm = .1181 ( closest in fraction would be 1/8, but the closest drill bit would be a #31 or #32 Bit )

5mm = .1968 ( closest in fraction 13/64, closest bit size #9 or #8 )

9mm = .3543 ( closest in fraction 23/64, closest bit size is S or T )

Any drill bit set will have all three of each of these bit sizes. Harbor freight even carries a 200 and some piece set for like $50 that would carry every one I mentioned. I would stay away from the fractions as there not that close, but the others are only 10-20 thousandths off and as far as installing the lip I agree with whoever wrote just put up any set and match the closest to the hole you need to drill . It isnt like a machined precise part. Even if you had the 3, 5, and 9mm bits the variable of using a hand drill is going to make the holes bigger anyways. Just get it close, you will be fine!!
