Default Spray Gun Question

In the specs, most of them tell you the operating pressure. Such-an-such psi, does this mean that in order for it to work properly it has to be run at this specific psi or if we run a lower psi will it still perform the same?

The reason I ask is because I have a compressor rated at 150 psi max, I'm about to buy a spray gun for two purposes to paint my stockers and to paint my shop. So I'm trying to get a glock that will handle both. I've seen some reasonably priced gats with psi in the 1800-2400 range!

Someone gotta know something, I hate talking to salesmen at Home Depot and Lowes. They're only there for a paycheck, all the people who work in the industry are practically gone

It wont work the same because its a differnet PSI setting, if its to low, itll spray slow, if its to high and you pull the trigger all the way, to much will rush out. In my opinion, I feel it all depends on both personal preference (your method of spraying, which will probably be the same as the majority lol), and the application (be it a fender, bumper, quarter panel, door jamb).

Yeah no way will that work. if you're compressor is rated at 150 psi. That is wayy too low. That means thats what it can hold max psi. Not how much it discharges. When you press the trigger on the gun it wil spray out at 150psi for 1 second then start to die down. You need a much more suffcient compressor. That can keep a consistant psi under a fully open operation. Most compressors will not be able to pump enough air for the guns. Go to sears they have full kits for great deals. They have everything you need!

Yeah. What he said lol. I got mine from Sears, I got the 33 GAL Vertical Craftsman Compressor (16732) for $300. Also got a free Impact Gun, 3/8 Ratcheting Wrench, and Air Chisel for free with it lol. Also bought a DA Sander, Craftsman Spraygun, and 1/4 Ratchet wrench for another $300. Sears FTW!

I bought this one.

Is that any good to paint like a fender, or bumper? (seperate pieces at seperate times)

Hope Im not hijacking your thread dude lol.

Thats the one I bought, I prefer HVLP over Suction, easier to balance.

It's not the gun really thats the problem. Its the opperator. It takes many years to have a very steady painting hand. Its all about keeping a perfectly even distance from the object. Practice makes perfect. Buy a piece of sheet metal and practice on that. Metal REALLY reflects texture blemishes!! Good luck !

well your guns are rated at transfer% and that is where the psi rating comes from and that is at that air cap not the gun you lose about 4 psi though the gun .. so if you got 35 psi at the gun you got 30 psi coming out.. so that is what the gun means but as far as the compresser you need to look at scfm not the psi rating the gun should not be using more the 35psi.. for a non hvlp and 24psi for a hvlp.. so thats what you need to look at.. so there you go... if you have ? let me know i am the painter for a street rod shop in NC.. but as far as guns go how bout the sata RP this one Sata Satajet 3000 Spray Gun
that is what i love sata but a little $$$ if you dont get payed to paint but i would get this it is good for the money Devilbiss Finishline 3 Spray Gun FLG643

the home depot husky brand HVLP gun is very good and highly recommended for an entry level HVLP gravity fed gun.

i have painted many things with mine.

while you're at it, get yourself a small regulator and a small filter/water separator you can right before the gun. also using a 3-axis swivel adapter between your gun butt and the male pneumatic fitting will make it easier to maneuver.
