Default Some noobie tool questions ..

I'm looking for a impact wrench at the moment. Unfortunately, I don't have a air compressor nor do I have the money to buy one, so my only option is to go with an electric one.

Would you guys recommend a cordless/cord impact wrench?

I've been looking at a Kawasaki corded impact wrench.

Yesterday, I bought a 1/2" torque wrench for $16.00 and was thinking to buy a 1/2"-3/8" adapter. Was it a good idea to buy bigger and use an adapter rather than just buying a 3/8" torque wrench?

Or should I just start buying 1/2" sockets?

Also, should I look into buying a breaker bar? I don't see the use of it if I have a cheater bar that I could use on a wrench.

I bought a Dewalt corded impact wrench from www.toolking.com. It was a refurb, so lots cheaper. I've used it for four years and never a problem. FWIW, it is better then the 1/2 craftsman air impact I have on a 30 gallon compressor... As for cordless, I have a friend who is a diesel mechanic and he uses a cordless SnapOn. Big $$$ and he said it'll take your hand off if your not expecting it.

As for the breaker bar... I have my WTF bar, a 6' steel pipe that I use if I can't get something loose. Not a good idea at all since the ratchet is NOT designed for that much torque, but I haven't had a problem yet.

1/2 sockets will be stronger than 3/8, so I would reccomend getting a set of the 1/2. I never like to use an adapter for a smaller size socket, but I am not sure if there is any truth behind my logic.

I have a Snap-On 12 volt 1/2 inch, and it works for just about everything I have ever tried to use it on.
