Default New Toolset and impact gun?

Looking to buy a new tool set. I need a set that includes all the sizes including a line of 1/2" sizes. Just your basic mechanic toolset, and more! Not looking to spend too much money though, maybe 100-300?

I have two toolsets right now and some of the rachets broke, alot of the important sizes are lost and everything is just a mess I would like to start over and want something complete

I saw those goodyear impact guns for sale at pepboys, anyone have one?

Can you reccomend me something?

Don't get the junk air tools from costco (trust me) . The Craftsman professional stuff is nice and when on sale, inexpensive for what you get. Make sure that whatever you get goes up to the torque you need. You don't want something that will spew oil on your hands while working (cough..costco crap...cough).

Costco does have good prices on handtools though.

yes if youre looking for tools on a budget i would go with craftsman and nothing else..unless you want to spit the money out and go with blue point or snap on

well im no professional mechanic and I think craftsman is a good setup to go with. They have that lifetime warranty

Thats what I have now, I think I paid like $100 for the tool set, but it lacks a lot of thing things I need, and plus over time its down to basically all the things I dont use.

Makes every job harder because of my shortage of the right tools!

I have a goodyear impact wrench that is good for 200ft/lb from Pepboys. I got it for $70 after rebate...I managed to do two suspension set-ups with it and it was not even fully charged. It's great and breaking torqued down bolts...and for $70 who's really complaining? If I could, or maybe down the road, I'll buy and Ingersol Rand Impact gun! .

Craftsman is the best "cheap" tool company you can go with, otherwise like others said, go with Snap-on or other high-end tool maker.

FWIW, I use cheap autozone Great Neck Impact sockets with absolutely no problem. They are fairly cheap at about $20 for a set.

Kind Regards,
Ryan

I just saw some tools on Eastwoods site. good stuff.

I personally have collected an odd assortment of craftsman, Husky, kobalt, etc over the past few years. my airtools are all craftsman (I did not spring for the Professional and needed it once)

my impact sockets are cheapies since I use them so infrequently and if one breaks I would pick up a pepboy - my "regular" sockets are craftsman.

Husky Husky Husky Husky Husky.

ALmost all of their impact tools are stainless. FTW.

Mine have lasted 5 years so far with very minor maintenance. (just oiling)

I bought a 50 Gallon compressor with a bunch of impact tools in one Kit. Home Depot has good prices when they are trying to clear out the previous years stuff. I picked mine up for 370$. It retailed the year before for almost 700$

Oh I didnt read the full first post. I still reccomend Husky. Home Depot will replace broken guns/tools on the spot if you buy the warranty. No questions asked.

This is my 1/2 gun and i love it. Magnesium housing so its light.
XT7100, Impact Wrench, Air, Super Duty, Magnesium Housing, 1/2" drive (50-700 ft. lb.)

for 3/8 i have this one. it has crazy power for a 3/8 and its magnesium, so its light and small.
MG31, Impact Wrench, Super Duty, Magnesium Housing, Standard Anvil, 3/8" drive

If i may make a suggestion, i didnt want to go cheap with craftsman or husky because why would you want to spend a couple of hundred dollars on air tools that may not get tuff jobs when you could spend a couple more while your at it and get ones that will.

also some one suggested the IR ti, i have used that gun many times and it is also a very good tool.

I am a professional. I have about $15K in hand and air tools, not to mention shop equipment. I know my situation is different than yours, but I'll chime in anyway...

I have pretty much all Matco hand tools in my box. They are very good, better than Snap-on, and cost about 1/2 to 1/3 less. I bought them all off of a Matco tool truck, making weekly payments while working as a mechanic. I could have spent less, but cheap tools suck. Last thing I want to do when trying to get a timing belt changed is have to stop, run to Sears, and replace some POS socket.

I have recently bought some Kobalt air tools at Lowe's and been very impressed with them. Great stuff, and amazing prices. Husky/Craftsmen/Northern suck, IMO. So for cheap stuff, Kobalt is it, to me.

FWIW.

For your needs I only recommend Craftsman tools.
