So now you have to pay extra for Craftsman's "life time guarantee" or did you get hosed

Have to chime in to protect the Craftsman name!

Not to stray off topic, but since I sold tools/lawn and garden equip at Sears for years upon years, I am familar with the warranties.

Lifetime is only on handtools. Such as hammers, rachets, and sockets. Other tools with more moving parts such as a buffer do not fall under the lifetime warranty. If you purchase a protection plan, such as what he bought for 5.50, they will replace it if anything happens to it. If for instance, you decide to run it over the day before the warranty expires, you can just take it in and they will give you a new one. It is honestly a great deal.

NewGenSTI, they wont actually take it apart and fix it, they will just toss you a new one no questions asked.

So in conclusion, everyone go buy Craftsman buffers with warranties!

Griot's Random Orbital. This device is awesome, a little pricey, but everyone loves how the car comes out when I'm done. They also make pads and buffers for specific applications clay, polish, wax, selant, etc. All their other products are A+ also. Griot's Garage 1-800-345-5789 - Car Care for the Perfectionist

I just purchased a UDM. I have yet to use it, but my first impression from holding it and simply turning it on high was good. I plan on giving it a workout this weekend.
