Default Recommendations for a FLOOR JACK

Hey,

Looking for recommendations for a floor jack. I wrench on my car often enough that its time to move on from using the jack from the spare Doesn't get the car high enough anyways.

Must be CHEAP! On a college budget, but still something that is gonna last me.

Any insight is appreciated.

Jesse

I bought this one from harbor freight. I'm very pleased with it.

I bought one at Costco that was similar to that one above and it was $99. Costco has a very liberal return policy on things like this, so if you blow out the seals in a year or two you can always bring it back.

BTW, I would suggest getting an aluminum jack. They are much easier to move around and position under your car. They cost a few more bucks but they weigh about half as much as a steel one.

thanks! but is it really worth spending the extra $$ for aluminum over steel even if i'm just gonna be wheeling it from my garage to my driveway? Any other structural advantages? I should really try to learn more about that stuff...

+ 2 for Harbor Freight blue aluminum racing jack. Served me very well. On note, this jack from Harbor Freight has a very low initial height making it perfect for lowered cars, cars with kits, and Roadsters! If you don't need that short initial height, you can find an alum jack elsewhere for slightly less.

Aluminum is quite nice around the garage but if you think you'll never need to pick it up (bring to a track/AutoX/Buddies house, store in a closet, etc), grab a regular steel one.

I have a steel craftmans 4ton jack and love it. The thing goes Soooo high! I dont know how you've ever wrenched with the stock jack! You can pick up a craftsman jack at sears for about $120. It's heavy as all heck, but VERY VERY sturdy!

well, i do love costco might have to swing by and see if they have anything.

Last time I was in costco, I almost bought one of those tent-car garages the dumb **** they almost make you pay for...

I picked up a decent Jack at home depot online. Cheaper then other places. Basically it works out to free shipping.

I just saw this one and it looks real nice. IT wasn't on the site when I got mine. If It was I probably would have dished out the extra money.

I have a 3 ton steel Craftsman jack that I got from Sears in a combo pack. It included a pair of 3 ton jack stands, the jack, and a creeper for like $140 or something.

ive gone through 4 craftsman jacks, all from the steel ones to the high dollar aluminum ones. they blow the seals out in about a year. i do use my jacks regularly but IMO they have been un exceptable. i will either get a cheaper jack that i can replace for a lower cost or i will spend $texas on a good one.

I've heard about this. Exactly why you don't go under the car that is simply jacked up Must be scary when it fails...
