Default what toolset to buy? help me out

ok guys, its time for me to buy a toolset for myself.

i was thinking of going to sears and getting a sears card and getting a nice craftsman set there.

i dont know if they have 0% or something there for some time, but it really dosent matter too much. i am just finishing paying off my laptop, than i will go ahead with this.

anyways, anyone have any recommendations for a set, or anything other than sears? i dont want to go overboard, just enough tools to be able to do simple things. i saw a couple sets online for around 800-900 or so.

but, any input is great, i know you all know your stuff. thanks guys

Get a hold of a Snap-on toolman. Only way to go. You won't be replacing any broken tools anytime soon.

If you have a shop that you reguarly go to or know someone that works in a shop, ask them when the Snap-on man comes by the shop. They usually visit each shop once a week.

Dude just get Craftsman. It has been the working mans tool of choice for decades. If you are a professional, then yes get one of the high end brands. If you are just a weekend wrencher, then save your money and get craftsman. They stand behind their product, the tools work well, you just don't have to pay a fortune for them. They have numerous different sets available, It is hard to say which is best, since they are all a good value.

I used to work at a pawn shop and they always had a ton of tools, snap on, craftsman, sk, etc. Make a few calls and see if any of the locals carry tools.

I don't know about the rest of the tools, but I know that all brands of screwdrivers are made under one roof. They just slap a different colored handle on them.

With that said, I have had no problems with craftsman tools. If for some reason it does break, bring it back to Sears or any other known store and they will replace it.

yeah, Sears has sales quite often. Every time I go in there for something small I walk out with something new.

I suggest you get a set of ratcheting flexable wrenches. They are my most used tool.

You should also invest in a couple different size torque wrenches.

Don't cheap out on torque wrenches. Read reviews on sears.com for all of them before you buy one, but keep in mind the majority of people who take the time to write a review are the unhappy ones. I just noticed that the one that I was going to recommend to you, since I have been very happy with it for a year now, received very bad reviews.

you will most likely need 2, one that goes as low as maybe 10 ft lbs for small stuff & one that goes up above 100 ft lbs.

A small 1/4" socket set is also a handy thing to have for small awkward spaces.

+1 for Craftsman! Best bang for the buck out there! If money is not an option, then Snap On is the way to go!

I keep this little set in my car just in case. I've used it on pretty much everyone of my installs, and was pretty clutch to have a few other times. Grainger Industrial Supply: Tool Set,102 Pieces 3FE99

Other then that i use my dad's huge craftsman set for everything.

i asked this same question a while ago and ended up getting a craftsman set. It was cheaper than just buying the metric stuff. i think the entire set was 400 or so
