Question list your methods of removing stripped nuts/bolts..

Well, I was doing my OEM bumper beam and got 5 out of the 6 nuts and bolts off.I got to the last bolt and the nut got stripped using my 14mm socket. So I going to try the gator grip..If that doesnt work, then I just have to dremmel it. So I was wondering what are your methods of removing stripped bolts or nuts.

I just drill an appropriate sized hole and get a reverse bit in it.

But I think you're describing 'rounding' of the hex head (since you mentioned the Gator Grip) . Get a frickn set of vice grips on that ***** and relieve some life stress. Then replace.

I had a problem with one of the nuts on the bumper beam too. My friend brought over a little set of sockets that were all jagged on the inside, forgot what they were called. But it took off with ease, I was impressed.

Craftsmen makes a set called Bolt outs: here.

I've used them and they work pretty well. I had to use them on the mounts for the front swaybar. I found it helped to set the socket on the bolt, then beat on it with a hammer a bit so that the socket really bites into the nut.

all this nut banging and biting is making me cringe!

I like to heat up my nuts and bolts with a torch. It does work very well on strut bolts that are seized. Just don't heat up the strut!

Heat works well if its seized up, if its rounded , its either vice grips or bolt outs. If all else fails, die grinder and a cutoff wheel. Sparks FTW!!!

Soak em in penetrating oil for a while....then heat...heat...heat...then use a large vice grip and work free.

Works for me every time.
