Default Garage Floor Coating

Does anyone have experience with/opinions on garage floor coatings?

The major brands seem to be Quikrete, Rust-Oleum, (about the same price) and ColorChips (quite a bit more expensive), not sure about the pros and cons of each.

Let me know if you've seen them, any thoughts for or against.

TIA

edit:

I cant believe I had never seen this vid( HSPN TV - HD Videos on Demand - Powered by HSPN Networks, LLC) . lol
My question to you is, what do/did you use on your garage floor? it looks like shop perfection. I want to do something similar to my 3 car garage so that clean ups can be a breeze..
TIA

Kevins response: That is my buddy's garage. I will ask him and get back to you. The floor is sealed, but that is all i know.

Sorry if that doesnt help much.

Just saw this. I got the Rust-Oleum kit (2 of them since it's a 2 car garage) based off the recommendation of a few friends. It's only been a few months but so far it's been holding up great. Just make sure you put on a thick coat and you'll be fine. I think I started off a bit too light but we'll see what happens. Also it takes a bit to learn how to best spread the chips but you'll get the hang of it.

Also get a quality roller brush. I got a cheap plastic handled one that I broke 5 minutes in pushing down on the rod it was attached to too hard. Had to duct tape it and do the rest by hand and bending over. I was damn sore that night.

you mean you want something like this?

I used the Rustolem stuff from home depot but the coating is the easy stuff. The hard part is the prep work. A buddy and I spent 5 hours cleaning, degreasing, and acid etching my garage floor. The coating rolled on in about 45min. Let me know if you want me to post up my how-to, i have some ok instructions.

thus far I've had it on for ~5 months and its the best thing. I've already scratched the floor which is easy to do, but I've never had a problem with parking on it, or cleaning up the numerous things I've spilled on it. I always get compliments from the neighbors as well. For ~200, it was the best thing I could have done to the garage.

^^Man that looks freaking awesome. My garage is brand new, so I'm hoping prep work won't be as much of a pain as it was for you.

You said it scratches pretty easily, do you have to patch the scratches or are they just on the surface?

its all in the prep work. we use some stuff from pratt and lambert $$$$$$$$+$$$$$$$$ and a few more $$$ for good measure. its a 100% solids two part epoxy for industrial use. for our shop it was a little over 10K for the paint and to have it media blasted. two coats in a 6K sqft shop.

smelled great
Painting shop floors

almost three years later and there are only a few slight marks from dropping large chunks of aluminum on the floor.

I'm about to do our basement with the Quik-crete tintable floor paint. It's not as tough as the epoxy kits and doesn't have the little paint flecks in it. But you can get it it in lots of different colors. You can also use clear epoxy over it and make it really tough and shiny. The prep is relatively easy if the floor isn't grimy. The Quik-crete prep product is called Bond-lok. Easy to use, no acid etching necc., but you can't walk on it a bunch afterwards. So you prep the floor Friday night, and paint it Saturday/Sunday. I bought enough stuff to do our 1050 sq.ft. basement (without Epoxy clear) for around $100. The fella at Lowe's said it would stand up to using a floor jack, no problem. Good Luck!

I just did my new garage floor with the Quikrete epoxy stuff (gray with flakes) and it came out really well. It really is all in the prep work as everyone has said before. I waited a week before driving on it since I hadn't moved in yet and so far everything seems great. We'll see how it holds up to a floor jack and jackstands soon!

Oh, and if you have paint or something on the floor that you need to chip off, Lowe's has a paint scraper that fits on the end of a pole like you use for a paint roller. It sure made my life a little easier.

I know the picture is of the bike
but the floor was professionally done with the epoxy (Quikrete looking) stuff im not sure which brand but it was costly as hell according to the previous owner. Only complaint is that it does scratch off and that it fades when exposed to sunlight (my garage is always open)
