IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | [quote=upncummr;1528493]In my opinion part of the "cost" of driving an AWD vehicle is knowing that in some cases damage to a single tire is going to result in the need to replace all four tires. It's happened to me twice and although I don't like doing it, it's just the way things are. I think it's an unreasonable expectation to think that the insurance company should be responsible for replacing the other three tires. But of course, that's just my opinion. By the way....sorry for the misfortune. Gary Gary- I understand what you are saying and I knew that before I got the STI. If I got a flat on my own I would have no problem with that. My point is that some J-Hole left a manhole cover open and because of His/Her neglect I need to buy all new tires? It is because of their neglect that I need to replace the 1. Now all are not useful to be because of said neglect, so they should be liable for all. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. Someone had to go to their insurance for a new wheel and tire, and had the same thing happen, they only covered the damaged wheel and tire. I know it sucks, but insurance is only to compensate damages. To them, the other 3 tires are still functional. You can fight them tooth and nail, but in the end it's up to them. Your best bet is keep going after Cal Trans. Good luck with it all, and sorry for your misfortune!!!! |

It's only ~$15 from Tire Rack IIRC and get the insurance company to pay for that. Or keep bugging the insurance company. Give your agent hell. Eventually they will probably give it to you so you'll leave them alone but getting them to pay for 1 shaved RE070s may be easier. |

Bring the quote to the insurance company personally and sit down with them. That will probably be pretty effective. If no love, take a picture of the hole and the damage to your car and bring those along with the quote to the town hall. Be persistent!!! |

To be honest with you, I am surprised that your policy states that they cover your tires in a situation like this. I dont handle property damage, but this is the first time I have heard about an insurance company covering tires. Like others have said you have the option of going after the city or buying 1 tire and shaving it. I had to replace a tire because of a nasty pothole in the spring and got the store to pay for it. I was within the boundries of the AWD/tire rule though. To be safe I looked for someone to shave my tire and couldnt find a single shop in my area that would do it. I think either way you go you will have a hassle. Trying to find a tire shop to shave or dealing with the city for insurance will be a b***h. Good luck and hope things work out for you! | |

Is State Farm going to go after them if they pay under your Insurance policy or are you going directly after them without involving State Farm? You should be compensated one way or the other but not both (expect to the extend of your deductible). Your total reimbursement should only be equal to the amount of your loss. As far as to the tires, if only one tire was damaged then you should only expect one new tire. To make the new tire acceptable for your car, you need to have it shaved and that too should be part of the claim but you should not expect 3 more new tires to replace one that are already OK. |

| Junior STI Driver | I had a similar experience ... and accident where only one wheel and tire was damaged. I showed my insurance company the page from the manual where it says that the car may be unsafe to drive and handle erratically if the tires are different sizes and they finally agreed to change all four. It really was not that much of a hassle ... my adjuster had to get approval from a couple of different people but it went through in less than a week. If you focus on the unsafe to drive aspect, not the damage to the car aspect I think you might have better luck. Good luck either way. |
