IWSTI Addict since: Nov 2005 Trader Rating: (1) | Right now for the winter i have Sumitomo HTR+ ultra high performance all seasons on the rims in my shed. Have had them going on the 4th winter so they are pretty bald. I need to get new tires for the winter rims. SHould i go all seasons or go winter tire. Im in Jersey where we dont get much snow anymore dont nkow why but last year we may have gotten like 4 inches total. The HTR+'s when they werent bald got me thru blizzrards thru like 2 feet of snow no problem good in the rain and ect...awesome tire. The other tire im leaning towards is the Blizzak LM-25's but being as im in jersey and it dont snow here that much anymore are they a waste i mean its probably just gonna get realy cold and rain most of the winter so should i just go head and get the all seasons again???? | Silver Member | Well I know every dedicated snow/winter STI driver out there is gonna go with DEDICATED snow tire but since you say it barely snows, not enough to warrant snow tires, I think you should be fine with a new set of the HTR+ (I've had them on both my STi & EVO) and they seemed to work wonders... especially here in Northern Nevada. |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | maby i'm biased but, I grew up learning how to drive V8 rear wheel drive cars in the snow in ohio and upstate new york. My pops never really believed in buying winter tires so I learned how to drive on all seasons and summer tires. and once you get used to it its not bad at all. I dont know if you've ever had to drive a corvette on 5 inches of snow with summer performace tires at 2/32''. but it teaches you how to recover from a spin really fast. Those suckers were like 11" wide, on a light as hell car. |

But i know whats gonna happen im gonna get the sumitomo htr+'s or conti extrmes and its gonna snow like crazy this winter...even though i know the htr+'s work good as hell in light to deep snow im gonna be sayin DAMN i know it was gonna snow like crazy this winter... |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2006 Trader Rating: (0) | they are not "snow" tires... they are winter tires, designed to grip in the cold weather no matter if there is snow on the ground or not. I have found the performance of a high-performance winter tire much better than a all-season. |

| Junior STI Driver | I have the LM25s on my STi (Chicago area), and I previously ran the Sumitomos on my FWD Acura CL-S 6 speed. If you lived where you got lots of snow, I would absolutely be recommending the Blizzaks - but honestly, if you really only deal with snow occasionally, you just can't beat the HTR+ for the price. Great grip, total overachievers. FWIW, I have never had any problem with the LM25s - in rain, warm/dry, deep snow, whatever. |

But you get used to making due with whats on your car and when you have to get somewhere and you have a corvette with summer tires, and there is snow on the ground. You learn to drift really quickly, as those 295's or what ever they are dont hook up. . . ever. . . when their is snow on the ground. |

1) Busy life 2) Money 3) Storage 4) No mechanical ability I fall into the #1 and #2 category. By the time I get around to things, half the time it is already past the deadline. With 2 kids, a career wife, and a busy job, life is hectic. In addition, I don't have that much $$$. To do this properly you need to have a second set of rims unless you constantly want to pay to get the tires remounted, etc. If you do choose the remount route, that brings up new problems such as transporting the tires to the shop, more $$$, and - yes - we get back to #1 and a busy life (gotta make an appointment at an incompetent tire shop so they can @#$% up the car). I don't race. Thus, I don't need super summer tires. Would I like more of a summer tire? Yes, of course. However, I hardly push my Nero M+S tires to the maximum as it is. Do I appreciate never having to worry about having the right tires on the car? ABSOLUTELY - especially since I transport my 2 kids in the STI to school 3 days a week and it snows at weird times here in MD. t This ad is not endorsed by this member.
