I went with the LM-25's after doing my research here and on tirerack.com. They are not too expensive and I like the idea of a dedicated season tire. I had all seasons on my m**ima (Turanzas) and they worked okay in all weather, but they were a jack of all trades, master of none.

this might work in your area bro... pretty reasonable prices... they swapped the tires on my buddies STi(RoyalSTi) for a very nice price!!!
The better way to get new tires.

I fall into the #1 and #2 category. By the time I get around to things, half the time it is already past the deadline. With 2 kids, a career wife, and a busy job, life is hectic. In addition, I don't have that much $$$. To do this properly you need to have a second set of rims unless you constantly want to pay to get the tires remounted, etc. If you do choose the remount route, that brings up new problems such as transporting the tires to the shop, more $$$, and - yes - we get back to #1 and a busy life (gotta make an appointment at an incompetent tire shop so they can @#$% up the car).

I don't race. Thus, I don't need super summer tires. Would I like more of a summer tire? Yes, of course. However, I hardly push my Nero M+S tires to the maximum as it is. Do I appreciate never having to worry about having the right tires on the car? ABSOLUTELY - especially since I transport my 2 kids in the STI to school 3 days a week and it snows at weird times here in MD.

This is a really neat idea for those who simply want to buy tires and get them installed. However, this is not a solution for winter vs. all season tires unless you want to pay the tire van to come out 2 times a year to swap your tires - in which case I'll just go back to #2 above. Nevertheless, this is a cool idea that I wish was available in my area.

Most people NEVER use the full capability of the STI even on all season tires.

Yeah i am with you on this. In the ideal world it would be nice to have two sets for winter and summer. But in reality, as you said, it takes time money and space. Neither of which i have an excess of. I'll be switching to A/S as well soon. I was attempting to drive in the stock tires last winter and even here in NJ with little snow, it was a nightmare. Hopefully a decent set of A/S will do the job.

It's wonderful to hear that you have such fantastic vehicle control skills, it really is. You are an inspiration to every 19 year-old kid on this board who doesn't want to shell out for proper tires on their year-round, all-wheel-drive, incredibly competent Subaru, and is looking for someone to support their decision to drive around on the stock bowling balls and risk the lives of themselves and everyone and everything in their vicinity. Yessir, an absolute inspiration.

Oh mannn lol ! Here we go with the yearly winter tire threads, I`m in MD and yes we didnt get that much snow - BUT! Snow is not the only factor during winter * Surprise!* You also take into account the temperature and how your tires react to it.
Blizzaks gave me the confidence that if I want to stop, I will stop lol! I also used it halfway through summer FTW!

I just can't get over why people use summer tires in winter. It is extremely dangerous. I had to learn that in a hard way. Being a skilled driver is one thing, but it's not going to help you out when you have NO GRIP AT ALL even if you're Michael Schumacher. Summer tires aren't supposed to be used under certain temperature as they get hard as rocks and provide not much grip. All seasons work decently in all conditions, but you should get dedicated winter tires if you want to maximize your car's performance in all conditions.

I also agree on not using summer tires in the snow.. tried and it does not work.. I have uses blizzak lm22's, revo1s, and this year I picked up a set of ws50s

as far as I am concerned if you have a separate set of wheels strictly for winter use, I would go ahead and buy dedicated winter tires. if you dont have extra wheels and you dont think your getting much snow then stick with all seasons.

I live in PA and we also havent gotten much snow lately, but I do know that we have gotten some pretty good storms before. I would say at least for me, knowing i have dedicated snow tires gives me that warm feeling inside knowing that I am going to make it home from work at the end of the day if we get a storm, or even if the roads are fine and then there happens to be snow drifted across the road you arent going to loose control.

I dont personally have 2 sets of wheels, I am just remounting tires, but I also have access to the equipment to do it myself.

Like I said before if you already have the wheels, you obviously already have a place to store them, and are probably running dedicated summer tires so why not just get winter tires. All seasons dont handle that much better than winters and are just too unpredictable in the snow IMO..

do you mount all seasons on you summer wheels?
why would you mount them on your winter wheels then?

Summer wheel = Summer Tire
Winter wheel = Winter Tire
All Season wheel = All Season Tire ( unless your lucky like me )

Well i went ahead and ordered the winter tire package from tirerack the cheap rims $104 a piece and Blizzaks lm-25's. I was thinking to myself awesome they'll be here maybe 1-2 weeks and ill have em for the first week of Nov...then i get a phone call from some guy at tirerack saying "oh we got your order for the tire package...we have the tires in stock but the wheels are on backorder we should be getting them in by the third week of Nov." So now im like GODDAMN it on the site it says availabilty IN STOCK not backorder...im thinking of telling them to forget the wheels and order wheels from somewhere else...because now im thinking im not gonna get them unitl like the first week of Dec.

I look at it this way: I have too much to lose if I can't control the car on slippery surfaces. With dedicated winter tires I can control the car on all surfaces, black ice especially.

Pay now or pay later.

i think ill go with winter tires this winter. im guessing there wont be as much snow again, but might as well just take it easy in the cold anyways, never know about ice.
