Exclamation TEST FIT: 17" x 8.5" +51 Prodrive GC-06H w/ 255/40-17 RT-615s on Pinks

Car: nandanrp's 2005 WRX STi, stock fenders
Wheels: Boondocksaint's Prodrive GC-06H 17" x 8.5" +51 in British Gold
Tires: Falken Azenis RT-615 255/40-17
Suspension: JDM STi Pinks, Prodrive bumpstops, RCE lowering front camber plates

We wanted to know if this setup would rub with stock (unrolled) fenders. Short answer: yes, it will rub in the rear, under load*

*Long answer: Depends on rear camber. I'm not sure how much rear camber I could run with this setup before I rub on the spring perch, but right now we know that -1.3 on my driver's side rubbed more than the -1.8 on the passenger side (I do not have rear camber bolts yet).

To test, we swapped the wheels over, and put painter's tape on the rear fender lip. If we saw marks on it, we knew there was rubbing.

Not only did we see marks on the tape, the driver's side (-1.3) rubbed hard enough at one point that the tape was stamped with a marking from the fender We also felt it touch the fender when I hit a dip at some speed while cornering... (I drove that section of road in both directions, and felt it both times).

Pictures:

I'll have a few more pictures of my car with the wheels on in my journal, but I figured I'd keep the pictures in this thread mostly on the tech side

Thanks to boondocksaint for risking his wheels on my car (He was about 50% sure I wouldn't put up a fight to keep them on ).

So what kind of camber could be run in the rear so that there's no rub on the fender or the perch?

i'll run some #s but i'd say you could get away with -1.9 or so in the rear both sides without issue.

or you could take a dremel to the fender lip and run -1.7 or so.

it's good to know the tape worked

Haha! Yeah it looked better than I thought it would. I've liked the GC-06Hs for a while now, but I thought *my* car would look better with more spokes. I was wrong

Interesting.

Sounds like he'll be just fine if he goes the coilover route then. Probably won't need fender work even

As long as it handles like I want it to, I don't mind rolling fenders. Not interested in cutting fenders, though.

GC-06h > RE30

My opinion, of course, and they look better in gold on black than they would "British Black" on black. Also my opinion.

That is very strange that you had rubbing with that setup. I have about as close to that setup as possible....

17x8.5 +50 offset Wheels with 255/40/17 RT615's
-1.8 / -1.4 F/R camber
Tein Flex coilovers

I get no rubbing anywhere and my car is pretty low. It is close inh the rear, but I have never rubbed once. My +50 offset sticks out 1mm more than your +51 offset. Not sure how you are rubbing.

The only apparent difference is the suspension. Have you done any fender mods?

Well, the flex probably has a higher spring rate than the Pinks. If you look at the pictures you can see there's plenty of gap when the car is parked (i.e. it's not tucked right now...). Upon compression, it rubs.

If your teins are stiff enough, it might not rub. Paging Dr. .

i have a feeling your 8k rear springs have something to do with it not rubbing

That looks awesome Nan. Just take them, we'll fiddle with the fenders later. I agree - it's the '05 that does it.
